SA bank joins forces with Coetzer

April 20, 2004, 11:32

Standard Bank has joined forces with Amanda Coetzer, the South African tennis star, to sponsor the Standard Bank Amanda Coetzer Challenge, the country's leading girls high and primary school tennis events.

The high school and primary school events form part of Coetzer's "Learn Tennis, Love Tennis" Foundation.

Schoolgirls from around the country will converge on the courts of the Oranje Meisieskool in Bloemfontein from Thursday, May 6, to Saturday, May 8, to participate in the Standard Bank Amanda Coetzer high schools challenge.

Coetzer is adamant that players from the formerly disadvantaged areas must be accommodated in her tournaments and through her foundation.

"I have initiated, with the sponsors, an ongoing development programme in and around Bloemfontein to give kids from the previously disadvantaged areas the chance of being developed by top coaches. These kids will not only be taught how to play the game of tennis competitively, but will also be invited to the event to "rub shoulders" with the top players from all over the country. They will be able to meet and socialize with these players so that they will be inspired and feel very much part of the event" said Coetzer. - Sapa

by the way Amanda Coetzer is taking some time off, apparently contemplating retirement. Good luck Amanda:wavey:
