View Full Version : Will someone besides Kim win their 1st GS this year?

After giving it some though, I think , no. If you go back five years of GS titles, that's 20 slams. That's 40 spots in GS finals. Seven of those 40 spots were occupied by now retired players, Steffi and Martina.
31 of the other 33 spots were occupied by one of six players.
Venus, Serena, Jenn, Lindsay, Kim and Justine.

Jenn's not playing all that well right now. Kim and justine aren't playing at all. But that stillleaves three multiple slam winners. Two younger than 25. I just don't see any ROOM for younger players to advance. With the WIlliams sisters out of the way for two slams, did any new players win one?

No. A player who already HAD a GS title won both.

If Kim and Justine miss RG I see the same thing happening. The players who already hold GS titles are too strong.

I could go back anothe GS, and add in Amelie. But the very fact that she's never even made another final makes me doubt her ability to win GS title now.

Who said Kim will win a GS this year
No one. But if I said 'will anyone?', 80% of the people would have answered 'Kim'. I'm just stepping around all those answers, and heading toaward some that are more potentially informative.

I would say Amelie has the best chance beside Kim.

P.S. I don't think Kim will ever win a major!!

Well said Volcano. That is the way the WTA is. Beofre Miami I started a thread along simialr lines but this was on Miami. Venus was struggling, Serena was returning from injury and people sort of expected her to have the Venus like kind of return. Alot of the top players were missing. I asked in that thread if anyone really could come out of the 96 draw and be the complete surprise winner. In the ondoor season we have had players like Patty and Maleeva come out and win big otherwise it is the same players who win the same big tities.
Come the next slam expect a williams, a belgian or Lindsay to win it. The draw may open up with injuries but it is still the same players. Kim is included in this group although she hasn't won one yet.
