There is a chance Els Callens will play doubles with Elke Clijsters @ the olympics in Athens.
Els Callens will know on the 14th of june if she can participate at the olympics. If els shouldn't get the criteria, she will most likely ask for a wildcard to go to Athens.

Now that Justine HH doesn't want to play doubles and Kim Clijsters decided to skipp the Olympics, Elke Clijsters is a serious option to form a team with Callens.

good luck to them

Surely Els will qualify for singles as Belgian No 2 singles player in the absence on Kim?

Or does Belgium not want to select her?

I hope she gets to play both!

Isn't Elke sponsored by Fila too?

 She plays in Fila clothes
but maybe she isn't really officially sponsored by them?
She's more 'low profile' than Kim (duh!) so that's maybe why it isn't a problem?

please god don't let Elke Clijsters go to the Olympics

Els really deserves to go, she's a great doubles player and even a good singles player - If she were to play doubles she should play with someone more worthy, like Kirsten.

I was thinking the same but Elke is a good doubles player and might be a topdoubles-player in the future but i think it's too soon.

well, I've seen Elke playing several doubles, and she's a pretty good doublesplayer!
Off course not as good as Kim or Els, I personally don't think that Kirsten Flipkens is better in doubles than Elke, in singles she is, but in doubles? hm...
Anyway, I think it'd be a great idea if Elke and Els played together @ the Olympics!

well, maybe it's a bit soon, but it would be a great experience for Elke and well, who else Els is gonna play doubles with? Not Justine, not Kim, I think Elke might be a good option!

I've only seen Elke play doubles once, and I have to say I was extremely disappointed, and have been more impressed by her singles the time I have seen her. However, she also looked like she may very well have been tanking in the doubles so it's possible I didn't see her at her best.

But that's just it, Belgian Olympic Committe only wants to take athletes who have a real shot at a medal. Sorry, but I don't see an Els/Elke combo as a good chance at a medal. Not sure how all the selections are performed, but taking Els/Elke would be a slap in the face of people as Van Haecke who is 6th in the world in his sport and can't go to the Olympics.

yeah, guess you're right with that, but it would be a bit stupid if Els couldn't play doubles on the olympics, probable her last, because she doesn't find a good partner, well, we'll what happens

I really was sad for Van Haeke  I mean he worked so hard for this and he can't go

I don't think Elke will be able to replace DOMINIQUE :hearts: and defend the Belgian bronze medal.

Wow... looks like the Olympics might have an Elke Clijsters vs. Jaslyn Hewitt final!

I'm sure it'll be top-notch.

The Belgian Olympic Committee is such an arrogant and hypocrite organisation!

Els Callens isn't good enough to go in singles (top100), but Elke Clijsters is good enough to go in doubles (top400). That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Why didn't they get Caroline Maes instead? She and Els were a good enough pair last year. I'm sorry but the Olympics is just too important to send someone like Elke just for the hopes of her gaining experience.

The only thing left I guess is to go over to Els, pat her on the back and say "Good luck." in a somber tone. :tape:

why can't he go? and what sport does he play?fencing... he's number 6 in the world, but he didn't reach a final of a big tournament this year, and that was the criterium to take part at the olympics..

Does anyone know why they don't set up a Kirsten/Els team?

Anyway, whatever helps Els to go to the Olympics is fine with me. She would be very disappointed if she can't go.
This said, I still don't understand why they don't let Els play singles. I thought she did in Sydney, just like Domi and Sabine. That meant we had three players in singles, no? Or did Els just play doubles?

I just hope that Els gets to the Olympics, and if that means pairing with Elke so be it. Els deserves to go, and I am willing to overlook the fact that Elke is not deserving. This is Els' last chance of a trip to the Olympics (probably) so good luck to her (and Elke).

I think Els MUST go to the Olympics!!!!! And if Kim and Justine doesn't want to play doubles with her then... I'd say that Elke is the best choice for a doubles partner! I saw some doubles matches of Elke (pairing Kirsten, Kim,...) and I found that Elke was the better player of the team!! Yeah when she played with Kim in Antwerp, Elke was the better doubles player!

Els indeed played singles last year and even got to round 2. She was only in because she was the highest ranked singles player available after somebody withdraw.

But I she will have the chance to defend her bronze medal. I'm sure Els and Elke will make a great team :)
