What's up with her now? Last time we seen her was in Acapulco as defending champion and losing to Marta Marrero in second round.

To be honest... I hope Mandy has retired. :crying2:

After watching her in Toronto... her game has really dropped, and she can't handle any type of power game at all.

I hate seeing an incredible fighter with so much spirit... just falling apart like she is.

I spoke to her SA agent Bruce Davidson at the Davis Cup tie in Johannesburg over Easter. He had in fact spoken to Amanda earlier that morning (she had called to speak to Wayne Ferreira before his match). What he said was basically that
1. she's out due to fatigue. She had been playing lots of exhibitions during the past 2 off-seasons, and now it was catching up on her a bit
2. that she is currently practising on clay - that indicates that she will play Roland Garros. (I've subsequenly seen her name on the German Open commitments list -under the qualifiers!!!)
3. nobody really knows when she'll retire. It might be any day. And that she will probably just leave silently, with the minimum fuss.

You know I think Amanda should have had a slam, in such a shame that she hasent, I feel bad for her in some ways I guess. Really she should have won the French 97 that was her biggest chance, but she fucked up aaginst Iva.

Thanks for the info, Butch.

I hate to say it, but I think age caught up with Amanda. She is 34 and is simply not able to keep up with the younger, more powerful players anymore. I've been a Mandy fan for years, so it does pain me to say that. I think she is currently ranked 86th in the world, so I am not surprised she has to play qualifying at the German Open. I hope she will play RG, but I think Mandy will just quietly retire this year. She will be missed when she does.
