2002 - Iva Majoli wins Charleston but not Roland Garros
2003 - Justine Henin wins Charleston AND Roland Garros
2004 - Venus Williams wins Charleston....??????????

Ah, but see...Iva won Charleston 5 years after she won Roland Garros which is one less than the number of games Hingis got in 1997! :D

Heh... this is what I thought when she won, but I didn't want to say. I think it's a tradition which goes back even further - I remember when Iva won in '02 I got all excited about Iva's chances at RG, until I realised that she'd go back to sucking again very quickly.

well, if the pattern of win, win, lose is correct... venus is then in line to win RG :)

Hopefully Venus will keep up the trend of Charleston and Roland Garros winners being one and the same.

I just want Venus to be happy and healthy. If she is both of those things, she will win Roland Garros...because she is the best player in the world when she is 100% healthy, 100% determined.

Go girl...do you thang.

Although this is true, the only person to throw a wrench in this perfectly planned out history is SERENA! In '02, when Majoli won, her side of the draw was really depleted, much like Venus', but Venus is a GS quality player. When Majoli got to RG, she lost in the second round. I can almost guarantee however, that this year's RG final will be a repeat of the '02 final with similar results!

very good research!!!

Had only Patty won Charleston that year, she could have been the RG winner, cuz she do have lots of finesse...

That's what I said a few days after Venus won the FCC. There was a thread for the favorite to win the French and I came up with this statistic. It's pretty creepy though isn't it!

really?
I think that only one Williams sister will be in the RG final, and whichever sister is there will win it. ;)
even if they both make it, it will definitely be a better match than last time.

Damn, it's gonna be tough for Justine then.
Considering the current physical state of the Belgie, she may be hard pressed to win a title at any level this year. :p

I just finished watching Venus play Fed Cup this morning on red clay.
If she keeps playing this way, it's gonna be tough for anyone to beat her.

Considering the four trophies which have been added to Justine's cabinet since January, I'd say that you are a little late with that prediction. :p

Iva got a gift in '02. Her 2nd thru 5th rounds were against MGM, Mandy, Smash, and Sandrine (in whatever sequence). The Peppermint Puzzle Played (in exact order, after R1) Momo, Mary, Serena, and Jen. That's Right, Rounds 3-5 were against the '00, '02, and '01 RG winners. Plus Iva got away with so many uncalled Foot Faults in the Final That Those shoes probably still have chalk embedded under The Toes. ;)

Venus can do it that's for sure, so maybe she finally will.
