Here's my short list...

1. Richard Williams, Oracene Price (Venus, Serena Williams)
2. Heinz Gunthardt (Steffi Graf)
3. Mike Estep (Martina Navratilova in the 1980's)
4. Melanie Molitor (Martina Hingis)
5. Dennis Ralston (Chris Evert for umpteen years)

Honorable mentions:
Karojl Seles (Monica Seles)
Carlos Rodriguez (Justin Henin-Hardenne)

:o Forgive my misspellings...assuming there are any!

Do the best coaches necessarily coach the best players? I think I could have coached Graf and she'd have been a top player still.

I thought about this when I first posted my list. I think a good coach can bring out the best in a good player. Graf was a good player, but Heinz, I think, was that foundation she needed to get her to greatness.

First I thought 'Alla Kournikova' second

But then I saw the others in your top-5

I would say Richard and Oracene because not only they have produced two top players but also, more importantly, the daughters are happy and cheerful and have freedom of doing whatever they want.

Rodriguez is worth mentioning too as he has made Justine a tough player as she is (no herpes jokes here now) ;) of course her hubby contributes his share too...may be....supposedly....allegedly....

I think Loic Courteau is doing a good job too.

Graf and Monica didn't really need any coaching in fact, didn't Monica have no coach for a long while and still got the the top or something? (sorry, don't follow her that much)

I think you maybe have to split apart the parent/coaches and the non-parent coaches.

Melanie Molitor and Richard Williams/Orecene Pryce have certain inherent advantage in getting their players to do things. Like being able to ground them. Harold Soloman can't pull his players off the tour against their will. Orecene did that to Serena.

See, this is why I love this board. :worship: Always an angle I never think of!

No particular order, but add:

Hubert Choudury (Peppermint Puzzle's '02 FCC run & Zurich title).
Glen Schaap (Nadya, esp. working around injuries).
ASV's brother Emilio (her Sometimes, Sveta Since).
Robert Lansdorp (non-touring "Mr. Fix-It" of Myskina and Sharky).
Carlos Rodriguez (big mouth, but gets the most Out Of JHH).

Eventhough allot ofpeople on this board don't like him,Carlos made what Justine is today. If it wasn't for Carlos (and P-Y too offcourse) Justine probably still wondering around the 5th place.Who knows maybe she wouldn't have even made it to the top-5

Yeah Steffi was a just good player when Heinz Gunthardt met her. She only had 10 slams and 61 titles. That's nice but definitely average  (j/k)

the only persons who brought steffi to greatness were daddy and steffi herself
I want to give ballboy Pavel some credit too

With good and experienced coaches she would have been even better though. I am convinced about that but she did pretty good anyway
