Recent history... probably the German girls. Lamade and Muller.

In the last 3/4 years my picks would be:

Zsofia Gubacsi Casablanca 01'

Adriana Gersi Basel 01'

Bianka Lamade Tashkent 01'

With Muller, Kuti Kis, Díaz Oliva, Craybas and Garbin not far away

McGrath was a very good player, actually... she won Eastbourne in 1994, and had quite a few impressive wins.

Plus, the 96 Wimbly SF... then I guess she got injured or something right after that.

3 - Bonsignori (Estoril 90)
4 - Lamade (Tashkent 01)
5 - Mikaelian (Tashkent 02)
6 - Talaja (Gold Coast 00)
7 - Gubasci (Casablanca 01)
8 - Gersi (Basel 01)

No way on Mana Endo... she reached 4th round of US Open that year beating Lindsay, and I believe she finished in the Top 30 in 1994.

Pitkowski, too... she was a solid Top 50 player in the late 90's.

Talaja, also... wasn't she near Top 20 in 1999-2000?

listening to this thread, i had the awful fear that this conversation will take place in a few years, and Daniela Hantuchova will be mentioned on this list as one of the "flash in the pan" players. She needs to pull thigs together or she may soon make the list at least of "worst players to win a tier I"

98- Pierce

I wonder what that says about the other people who were in those tournaments and still failed to win.

Please stop insulting players. Whoever wins, however weak the draw is, they deserve it. There are still other people entered. You do the best with what you have. If it wins its good enough, and good enough differs from day to day.

The really talented people who could not employ what they have to win titles, those are the one you need to focus on and dissect and repeat the exercise if you have to. The rest heap praise on them.

Your sole purpose in life is to fulfil your potential. If you havent, you've missed the very purpose of your existence.

If somebody is good enough to win a title they're doing something right.

Sticking the word "worst" to any of them doesn't make sense.

Daja Bedanova... though she had a great year..But where's she now...Tanasugarn also...

I knew this would come sooner or later....

Tanasugarn:

Finalist (5): 2002 - Canberra, Doha; 2001 - Tokyo [Japan Open]; 2000 - Birmingham; 1996 - Pattaya City

Semifinalist (9): 2004 - Hyderabad; 2002 - Tokyo [Japan Open]; 2001 - Dubai; 2000 - Tokyo [Japan Open], Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur; 1998 - Tokyo [Princess Cup]; 1997 - Auckland; 1996 - Beijing.

And...

(1998-2002)
4th round at wimbledon!!! (not many people could be that consistent!)

and ...

2003-34; 2002-28; 2001-29; 2000-29; 1998-37 (consistent top 40 player)

ok...so she doesn't have many wins over top ten player... okay so she's not playing well this year...but at least she was pretty consistent for at least 4-5 years... not lots of players who are out of top 20 could be like that!!!
