BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) — World No. 2 Kim Clijsters (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111556), who is nursing a wrist injury, will decide on Friday whether she'll play in this weekend's Fed Cup tie against Croatia.

Belgium already has to do without Justine Henin (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111554)-Hardenne, who is recovering from an energy-sapping virus, and missing both stars would put the 2001 champion in a tough position in the first round of the world group.

"My wrist is still a bit stiff," Clijsters said on her web site www.kimclijsters.com (http://www.kimclijsters.com/). "I want to protect it as much as possible until Friday ... Only then will I make a decision about the Fed Cup."

The right-hander injured her left wrist last month and kept it in a brace until last weekend when she played a charity match against her fiancee Lleyton Hewitt (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111471).

Because she has a doublefisted backhand, both wrists are essential to her game. She wants to make sure that the Fed Cup tie against Croatia will not jeopardize the rest of her season.

"It is not only about this weekend but I also don't want to endanger the tournaments that come after it," she said. Clijsters wants to be fully fit again for next month's French Open, where she lost to Henin-Hardenne in the final last year.

Clijsters is especially keen to play the Fed Cup tie because it takes place in her home town of Bree. If Clijsters plays, she will join Els Callens (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111621), Kirsten Flipkens and Elke Clijsters against Croatia's Karolina Sprem, Jelena Kostanic (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111617), Silvija Talaja (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111623) and Iva Majoli (http://www.foxsports.com/named/Search?categoryId=111581).
