Definitely:
Conchita Martinez-the veteran is playing great tennis this late in her career
Patty Schnyder-always tough on clay

Maybe:
Jelena Kostanic-the girl's got a nice clay-court game
Petra Mandula-been to the FO quarters b4

We'll see after the next few weeks who we can add to the list, or who we can take off.

Your thoughts!?!?:p

Do you guys actually think Monica will fair that well after a year off?!?!?

With so many young hard-hitting Russians I think she will be knocked out without a fight in the second round.

Vera is pretty-much a top 10 player, so not a darkhorse.

And does Gisela play well on clay?!?!?

Definitely Loit or Sprem would suck to get in the 3rd or 4th round.:p

Kuznetsova. She's improved since January. She has the game to beat top 10 players.

Oh sorry, but I think of darkhorses more as top-player upsetters rather than surprise semifinalists.

sugiyama is ranked inside the top 10... shall i say more? monica is still better than almost anyone out there if she comes back well. and monica never loses without a fight, so i disagree there. sure she may be rusty and lose early, but she's only of the few who can challenge the top players, which would make her a darkhorse, imo. i don't expect you to agree, which is fine because she hasn't played in so long.

Apart from Big Four, Mauresmo and Russian Top 4 I don't think anyone has a slightest chance. And that includes Capriati and Davenport.

Conchita could pull it off if she gets a good draw and in the final faces someone other then Venus or Serena. Then her chances are pretty good. She almost beat Justine this year, Davenport and Jen have struggled with her in the past. Amelie tends to get tight at the French. So, Conchita could do it. Another one I'll go with is Myskina.

how is stosur on clay? i wouldnt call her a darkhorse but she has the potential to play at a high level. i'm just hoping she plays well at RG this year and gets that ranking up a bit higher. i'm not expecting her to have a run or anything but hopefully she can win a couple of rounds.

I think any one of the Russian girls would be able to give the rest of the draw a good fight.

Then again, pessimist that I am, unless the Big 4 decide to do a vanishing act, it's going to be tough for everyone else.

Venus Williams:eek:

A lot of the top players will be hoping she gets her ranking up in a hurry, or she gets a special seeding because no matter that she has not been a factor of late, no one wants to draw her early in the tournament.

Just kidding. I know she is not a darkhorse, but what tantalising match ups early on:devil:

I'll go with Sprem, Maam and Seles as the complete outsiders.

Kuznetsova as an actual possibility of beating one of the top 5 and maybe getting into the semis or final.

Should be a very interesting French Open and I don't see anyone coming in as overwhelming favourite.
