You know something I've always found to be interesting about those conspiracy theories? Especially when made by other players that Richard dictates who wins? I'm always surprised at how low these players and perhaps some of the other critics think of the other players. At first I thought the thought and claim that Richard would tell either Venus or Serena to pull out so the other could win was a slam and sense of disrespect to Richard and really the Williams family, but it's really a slam back at the players and critics who think Richard and Venus/Serena would even do that.

The simple fact that Richard would dictate who wins between Serena and Venus isn't the issue. It's the fact that he could possibly do that and still have one of his daughters beat any player in the final. I think the players who have brought up the conspiracy theory forget they are putting themselves down on a player level because how bad must they be that Richard can tell one of his daughters to lose a match and yet the other one still beats up on any given opponet?

The conspiracy theory seems to me a passive aggressive stance to block out the aspect of losing to either Venus or Serena. Nothing more.

Wouldn't it be more logical to have serena actually tank the match in the final rather than pull out too early. That way venus would not only have the title but have the bonus points for beating the no. 2 seed, boost her ranking quickly meanwhle keep serena's finalist's points not to mention the money and the silverware- some thinking is definitely out of whack.
By the way Richard also paid off justine to withdraw and give venus the best possible chance not to mention how he got in time to send samantha reeves packing.

What's funny about this idea (Richard himself has said this) is that why would anyone think that Richard has that much control over Venus and Serena. They are both grown now and have been for awhile. There have been plenty of times when Richard told them to pull out, but they didn't listen to him and played anyway. If he had so much control they would listen to him all the time. Richard said that the media gave him too much credit and that he doesn't have control over them like that.

Richard is a man of integrity. He would not insult his daughters intelligence, emotions, ability,or character,by telling either one to pull out of a match,so that the other can win. That's just ludicrous!!

I heard two sets of people at FCC claim just that, that Serena pulled out so that Venus could win the title. Really. I heard two sets of two people each claiming this in the crowd, even saying that the FCC people knew it was happening, but could do nothing about it, that everything is fixed, and that they prayed right would do over wrong and someone not involved in the conspiracy would beat Venus after Serena's withdrawal because Venus sucks and is unworthy of a title. Really, I'm not shitting you, I overheard this twice, from real, live people. I guess Vera, Kostanic, and Conchita were paid off by Richard or those results-fixers! Funny, I thought Conchita was playing to win! Serena also did it risky, she left a lot of people on her side when she split!

Yeah, especially Conchita, who is very dangerous on clay. Seems to me, if it were true , wouldn't Serena try to get Conchita out of Venus' way and then tank the next match against Peppermint Patty?

Isn't Serena's "REAL" ranking falling too?

That's my thinking! Serena withdrew sort of early to support such a stance. She could have knocked out Petrova also! I'm not putting you guys on, I really did overhear these things, as strange as it sounds. And Kostanic seemed to pick up a lot of fans in that semifinal! I never believed all the bullshit about crowds hating the Williams sisters, until this year, though Venus still had 80% of the crowd in the semis, and actually at least 60% in the final, and given she's playing Conchita, not so bad. Conchita has a lot of legitimate fans at that event.

Celeste ain't lying there were a few idiots who parted their lips to come up with that idiotic theory.

Hello, why would Serena enter the event, play one match and then pull out if she wanted Venus to win? She didn't have to enter at all..
