I just fininshed rewatching the Family Circle Final that I recorded, and just noticed after the match when Venus was waving to the audience she put her hand on her chest and gestured to the audience saying I love you all like she was at actress in a play she did it twice. I thought it was funny. If you recorded it look at it and you will see what I'm talking about. Anyway congrats to Venus.

like Venus said in her interview, she couldn't believe the crowd support and she must have meant it. I hope i get to see this match on tape.

No Knizzle,

This was something special from Venus, because of the SUPPORT she received from the crowd in South Carolina, a state that has had many controversies concerning racism and the rebel flag that was flying over the Capitol only about three years ago.

Venus or Serena get little crowd support in other venues other than New York, and possibly Canada when they play in their home country. Most of the time even foreign players get more cheers than our own home grown champions. Consider Indian Wells or Scotsdale. Even Miami seems to give them only mild support. (They keep winning it anyway,,Ha..Ha)

Serena has never won in Charleston, but she had noticed this great support for her there and convinced Venus to join her this year.

Now Venus has experenced this herself. My bet is that both Venus and Serena will play here in the future whenever they are healthy.

Indian Wells, that note...You may have been replaced.

Now days she wants to act like a Beauty Pagent Queen. Why not! Nobody else is doing it.

and when they start (and they will) you'll know from whence it came.

I love it.

As long as she keeps winning, I don't care what gestures she makes after the match!!

Yes in her speech she just said she didn't know how to respond to the reception she receives there that it was so unusual for her but that she so appreciated it...

I think if another American girl would've been in the final the crowd would've been split down the middle which still would've been more support than Venus was use to ...

i thought the crowd was really great either way you look at it. conchita had a lot of support being the veteran and her title drought is really jawdropping, but they were also pulling for venus to really re-establish herself and it was really important that she didn't lose to martinez. (not that that's a step backward, she just wouldn't have lost that one unless she played badly... or if conchita could play a whole match as well as she did in that first set  )

The reason why they are cheering her is because she's the underdog now... Not in this particular match, but rather as a whole, she hasn't won slams in years and she's not even in the top 10. So people feel sorry for her and they want her to get back to championship form. If Venus was currently #1 or #2 and almost unbeatable, she wouldn't have gotten too much crowd support today...

The crowd really appreciated Venus' efforts. That standing ovation, and applause, was quite touching.I think Vee was overwhelmed by their positive reaction to her.Great crowd.IW can take a lesson!!!

I wish ESPN had shown the ceremonies. Was Conchita congratulatory?

I don't think they feel sorry for her. I think they appreciate the valiant effort she is making on the comeback trail. They missed the beautiful tennis she is capable of and is genuinely happy to see Venus at her winning self. Regardless of what anybody thinks about the Williams' sisters, they should be applauded for just getting out of bed everyday, because if I had had the year they had last year, I wouldn't be any good to myself or anyone else. I just lost my father in December and I'm still grieving. I knew with my father being ill that he was going to pass, but to have your sister gunned down in such a violent manner is unbearable. I applaud them for being the strong and determined women they are, whether they win another tournament or not. Kudos to the sisters for any effort they make.

Ah Conchita? Was she at the ceramony?

 No I'm J/k! I can't remember. She didn't say much. Just that she may be back next year or something like that. Really I think I was changing film in my camera at the time. I did some video of Venus's exception speech but it's not good it's just from my digital camera.
