Yeah, I just saw that!!!

Alain Baxter has got Britian's 1st ever olympic medal in skiing.

All the other guys fell over on a really sharp corner, but he was one of about 5 or 6 who actually completed the course.

Well, never mind how he did it...

GBR got another medal!!!:bounce:

Alain Baxter has won Great Britain's first ever Olympic medal in alpine skiing.

The Scot came home third in the men's slalom at Salt Lake City.

Baxter finished eighth in the first run, climbing to third in the second to finish 1.26 seconds behind French winner Jean-Pierre Vidal.

That slalom was unbelievable

Jubilant Baxter on his bronze medal

Sebastien Amiez was second.

Baxter's shock success was Britain's third medal of the Games, following the women curling team's gold and skeleton slider Alex Commber's bronze.

He told BBC Sport Online: "If I had put two really good runs together, I would have won gold.

"All the hard work over the season has paid off.

"It's unbelievable to think I've won the first alpine medal for Britain at an Olympics, and I am sure there will be more to come."

Great News!

By the way, France also improved its record: the previous one was 9 medals  and this time, we get 11 http://perso.club-internet.fr/ttle/tennis/frwink.gif :D
Jean-Pierre Vidal is the first French gold medalist in slalom since 1968 and the (here) famous Jean-Claude Killy.

Isn't Alain the guy who got in trouble with the IOC for having his hair dyed to look like to Scottish flag?

VBN- I know, it's crap:mad:

Monica_Rules
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:22 PM
Aparently it was making a 'political statement' as in he thought it should be Scotland,Wales and England and not Great Britain

They said it was some kind of political statement. No one was allowed the English, Scottish or Welsh flags anywhere on their kit or clothes, only the Union Jack.

Sounds like a load of crap if you ask me.

Monica_Rules
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:28 PM

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:35 PM
I think it was blue with a white cross, like the Scottish flag, but he dyed the cross dark blue to shut the IOC up.

veryborednow
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:40 PM
pffffff now that is lame

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:45 PM
Time for another avatar change...

In this pic, he's got the blue hair with dark blue cross.

 Oh dear...the IOC need to concentrate on more serious stuff than that.

lol@Frey - forget the drugs, the fixing of results, the discontent of the cold war countries - lets pick on the Scot and his blue and white hair

Monica_Rules

LOL!

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:56 PM
The IOC's dilemma-

Biased skating judges...or blue and white hair. Now which causes the most controversy, offence and distress?

Obviously the hair.

Maybe some people should get their priorities right!

veryborednow
Feb 23rd, 2002, 08:58 PM
well, personally I am more offended by the hair than people being cheated out of the medal they deserve by a french judge who shouldn't even have a inclination to either side. ...

Monica_Rules
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:03 PM
Clearly VBN i mean the hair is just so offensive to everyone

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:03 PM
And then there's the whole thing with Sarah Hughes and Irina Slutskaya (great name!) and the biased free skate judging...

It blatantly only happened because the authorities were scrutinizing Alain for unofficial flags on any part of his body!

veryborednow
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:07 PM
Frey - thank you, I now have dodgy images in my mind ...

I think it's quite important to check the whole body for flag, enducing racial and political hatred is going to of course be started by the Scots who have NO respect for other peoples geographical reasoning...

Monica_Rules
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:12 PM
LOL!

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:15 PM
We really don't want to see an anatomically correct, 3-D map of Japan somewhere on this guy's body...

veryborednow
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:20 PM
LMAO@Frey - yuk! thank you ... I'll stick with Scotland thank you very much even if there are white crosses

*Izzy*
Feb 23rd, 2002, 09:23 PM
