I'm just giving comments during commercials.

Up a break 2-0, VZ just double-faulted twice in a row to give back the break.

VZ leads 2-1 VW to serve

Heh. Understatement of the year. Did you hear about her smashing a hole in the back wall of the court at New Haven, then? The girl is a psycho.

VW is moving in a lot, going to net often. She's three feet inside the baseline on VZ's 2nd serves. W is definitely winning the agression battle early. Z needs to take it to her a bit more.

Good, then her forehand is getting better because that is why she lost serve in the first place; forehand errors.

I think Venus has a great chance to gain a lot of momentum and confidence if she wins this match. This could be a gradual rise to her first French Open title.

Vera 3 winners 25 points won ... how is that possible? Is Venus commiting a lot of errors too?

I am. Z just double-faulted away the 1st set.

As to how Venus is looking ...

1) Everytime Vera swings at the ball, Venus is IMMEDIATELY moving to where she wants to go. She's reading Vera's swing well. Compare this to the Raymond match at OZ, where it often seemed that Venus didn't know where the ball was going until it was in the air.

2) She WAY inside the baseline on Vera's 2nd serve.

3) After the first couple games, she's really closing her shoulder on her forehand.

I'm not saying Venus will win for sure. I'm just saying if she wins this match she will get enough momentum to have a chance to win her first French Open title. It's all just speculation on my part. Besides, I'm more of a Serena fan. :p

Q: Why is Vera Double Faulting Alot?
A: Because on second serve Venus, is Blasting them causing intimidation on Vera's second Serve.

Venus is also moving pretty well, and seems to have found her range on the forehand side in this match.

Venus is really on fire right now. After the first 2 or 3 games, Venus is starting to look like her old self again. I think she is somewhere around 17 of 18 at the net, and her forehand has been just amazing.

Nobody, something told me you were normally camped at Rena's, and coming in to give her sis support. It was the scope of your cheering and commentary that gave you away. You can afford to say: "Oh. Rena's forehand has come on. This will be a weapon at the French final."

We Vee fans, on the other hand, have been systematically humbled. We're at back-to-the-basics mode, experiencing deja vu, seeing shots and strategies we thought we left behind in 1999. For us it's stroke, set, and match at a time. But I do appreciate you're coming down to see how we're doing.

Give the depleted field of this tournament, i doubt this could be an indication of what Roland Garros could be. When in the world we could have thought that Lindsay Davenport could be a major threat for Venus on clay?.. Lindsay is the higher and perhaps the stronger player left on the field.
We still have to see how she will perform against the likes of Henin, Mauresmo, Clijsters, and even Serena if they all can be fit enough at the french.

Z up a break 4-3

To my eye, this match is level right now. And since Z is the break, I'd say odds favor a third set. I'm betting Venus goes for some big forehands early this game.

Venus ( I know she was injured ) played far too safe in Roland Garros against Vera. She attacked and pummelled relentlessly at Wimbledon and crushed her. Even though it's clay I say she's got to adapt the aggressive approach as opposed to the one with a bit more caution.

Venus wins 6-3 6-4.

I think that ankle she has taped is bothering her a little. I hope she isn't scheduled to play next week. Still, it's a win over a top twenty player, her first this year. Of course it's grean clay, not red, but it's still a win on clay over a player who'd beaten her on clay.

As far as I'm concerned, this tournament is already a success for Venus.

She plays Fed Cup next weekend, then goes to Warsaw to defend her points.

If she gets treatment on the ankle ASAP, it shouldn't bother her tomorrow.
