I am a huge ASV fan and joined this site a few weeks before she retired so i eventually get to be in an ASV cheering thread :bounce:

There is news that Arantxa will play mixed doubles here with Todd Woodbridge. I am sure she will play doubles too, possibly with Anabel Medina Garrigues or Sveta Kuznetsova :)

Good Luck Arantxa!!

I agree with JDLover...that would be great if Arantxa could play the singles! I miss her so much :( But at least, she'll play the mixed doubles so we are lucky to see her back...

Vamos Arantxa... Give you another chance to win your fourth singles Roland-Garros title...:)

Well she actually said she *wouldn't* (be playing doubles here ar R/G, only mixed) but I'm thinking now she might rethink and play with Mary Pierce -- Paris would love that, I'm quite sure! (and me too, btw)

Also, if anyone would like to contact Arantxa through her brother Emilio's tennis academy and BEG her to keep playing doubles, the email address there is: openclub@retemail.es

Arantxa said she does get the mail that is sent there.

This is definitely one of the best developments of this year's tournament. I am so glad she'll be back in competitve play and I'm extremely excited to see her play and form once again. Go Arantxa! :)

Well see? You just never can believe what Arantxa says! *LOL* I think though that she had expected to play with Anabel in Berlin and/or Rome, but didn't because Anabel had a slight back strain and just wanted to play singles (anyone else hear this?)

Anyway here she is with Anabel, so vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmos!! Testud/Vinci will not be easy!

Looks like Anabel is fit and ready to go for doubles again (she also played last week in Strasbourg doubles) - Not an easy draw playing against Testud/Vinci, but hopefully Arantxa/Anabel will gel as a team and be able to pick up some confidence here :) Tough section, but let's hope for the best! :)

Hi Guys,

I was at the match yesterday, so I thought I'd bring you a bit of a report and some pics I took. The good news is that, while they lost, ASV and Anabel can definitely form a good team, I think, but whether they have left it a bit late to get enough practice is debatable.

In the first set they played very well, but as the second went on you began to realise that Testud and Vinci were an old team who are slowly getting back the feel of playing together. They had a certain telepathy that you only get from playing regularly with the same partner.

Although ASV lost her serve in the third set, it was actually Anabel whose shots broke down, and she was definitely the weaker player in the third set. Their opponents noticed this and seemed to be playing to her more as well.

The third set was very tight and quite high quality, and it was very sad that as our team served to stay in it at 5-6, Vinci got a lucky net cord at 15-15 that meant Anabel could not reach her retun of serve. On the very next point at 15-30, the same thing happened as Testud hit a return that hit the net cord, leapt over Arantxa's racquet where she waiting to volley, and landed just in. It's a bit weak to blame a loss on a couple of net cords, I know, but it certainly should be mentioned as the match was so close at that point.

Anyway, they seemed to have fun, ASV was in good spirits. We were sat near Emilio and Sveta, who came to watch, and they had good support. It was freezing by the end of the match though, and I'd had to sit through about 642 hours of Novak vs Gaudio in direct sun in order to keep the best seats for the match. Ah well, at least I can finally say I've seen ASV play at Roland Garros!

Here's some pics, thes're not the best as I havent had time to work on them yet, but I knew the likes of Marsha and raquel would like a look :)

Brilliant win over the 3rd seeds! I was expecting this to be the harder match for ASV rather than the women's doubles, but they came through in straight sets :D

Daniel is a really experienced doubles player, and of course so is ASV, so they have nothing to lose and no one will want to play them now. Next up is Bovina/Zimonjic who won the Aussie Open so it is not getting any easier, but Vamos ASV and Daniel :worship:

Hi All,

Just got back from RG, and of course I was at the match, so i figured you'd like a report :)

It was a great match today, Arantxa played much better than the other day (not that she played badly at all the other day) and she and Daniel seemed to combine very well. Lisa seemed a bit tense, and wasn't playing her best but they had to play well to win.

Arantxa returned Bryan's serve particluarly well, and of the four players it was him who found himself under the most pressure to hold.

Marsha, I got to speak to her briefly, and she was VERY happy to have won, the relief was evident. Another victory or two like this will do wonders for her confidence, which, I think, is all she lacks at the moment. I hope she considers to play a warm up before Wimbledon, as after today I'm convinced she still has what it takes to do very well at doubles.

Here's some pics from the match - enjoy! :)

 Damn, we had the break point

They are a good team, Aussie Open champs

Well I hope ASV teams with Daniel at Wimbledon. Think they could be a good team there :yeah: Good Luck Daniel this year on the men's tour!

Still  though, but just great to have ASV back for a while :)

Hello everyone,

Sorry I didnt have time to bring you a report after the match yesterday, although there's not much to tell. Bovine and Zimonjic combine really well. He has a killer serve, which took a while to get heated up but by the second set was a real weapon. Bovina was also very consistent in every aspect of her play, and seemed to wear the pants in their partnership.

Arantxa and Daniel didnt quite reproduce the form they showed against Lisa and Mike - ASV served well (as she has done all week) but was erratic on return, and Nestor's serve wasn't quite as potent as before. It was a very close match though, played in slight drizzle almost throughout, and I'm sad to say that the mistakes in the tie-break were Arantxa's; two forced errors (I think the opponents were targetting her at this point), an unforced error and a double fault meant it slipped away pretty quickly.

To sum up the week though, having seen all of Arantxa's matches, i have to say I'm quite encouraged. I was a bit dubious about her (or anyone's) ability to be out for 18 months and come back at top level, but she's shown she can do that. The women's doubles loss was particularly cruel (that game at 5-6 where they fell victim to two consecutive irretrievable lucky net cords was very frustrating). I feel that she and Anabel just need to play matches together to get some form, but there are few opportunities for this. Hopefully ASV will elect to play a Wimbledon warm-up, but I'm not sure what will happen - she always liked Eastbourne, and Anabel is committed to the Ordina Open that week, so who knows...as for her and Nestor, as raquel said, I think they can go far at Wimbledon, given a slightly more forgiving draw than they had here.

:wavey:

Jon, were there a lot of people at the match? That post mach pick is kinda funny, they are all swarming poor arantxa *LOL*
heh, well it was a bit of trick photograhy to be honest. if I'd zoomed out you would see that the stands were not so full, but people ran towards the court as the match finished. :)
