Here is a quote from an article at www.sports.yahoo.com
Though Russian officials were somewhat placated by the IOC, the country's hockey coach was fuming after Russia lost 3-2 to the United States in a semifinal hockey game.
''``There's not much you can do about it right now,'' said coach Slava Festisov. ``An agreement's been signed that is designed to have a final between Canada and the USA. You have this final, you have NHL referees. ... They live here and they know the North American players.''
Now the Russian's are just getting pathetic.

I din't think the officiating was that bad?
Perhaps canada should pull out because the ref for the womens gold medal match, shouldn't have even been reffing a peewee game?

oh brother
There was nothing wrong with the officiating. Like John Davidson said, they were simply outclassed in the first and second periods. By the time they found their game in the third it was too late.
Can't they just face facts and admit that their team lost fair and square??? Enough whining already!

I'm the last one to defend an NHL offical but please! Fetisov guess what your players play in the NHL and know Bill Mcreary too! Hell you played in the NHL you know him yourself! Kasparitus started all this after the game when he comes back to Pittsburgh I hope all the Penguin fans boo his sore loser ass!
The Russians only played 1 period they deserved to lose, cry me a river Fetisov.

I think maybe the Russian coach just thinks this. The Russian players were all very gracious.

Becca, I'm kind of glad Canada won the women's hockey gold. I felt bad about the officiating in that game. Canada got the short end of the stick. That's for sure.
The Russians problem is the same as it was in Nagano. They just can't score enough goals against the good teams. And not having Sergei Zubov and Alexei Zhitnik on their defense hurt their chances to win the gold. It's hard to believe they chose not to play for Russia. The Russian defensmen were decent, but nothing special. And it showed.

the cat - it it helps they played a beautiful last period - they outplayed the Americans that period. To make up for a lackluster effort in the first couple.
If not for Richter, we'd have been into overtime, if not an American loss. He was certaintly making some incredibly saves on that one power play.
As for the Canadian women - they get the last laugh for that god awful refffing anyhow. Though most of the calls were against them, some of the calls against the US were questionable too.
Furthermore the 3rd canadian goal was scored when some people felt the Canadian player was offside, but it wasn't called.
Anyhow- at least Russia gets to play for the bronze. I really wanted to play them - I like the Russian team.
Oh well, maybe next Olympics ;)
I'm sure Canada will try their hardest to get back at them for ya :D
