Anyone knows if she has withdrawn?

Serena Williams (2):
R1 - Bye
R2 - Kelly McCain
R3 - Conchita Martinez
QF - Nadia Petrova/Paola Suarez
SF - Lindsay Davenport
F - Venus Williams/Jennifer Capriati

This draw is much harder, IMHO. Most of them are claycourters and all of them are in form.

Good luck Serena! Defend your finalist points. :bounce: :bounce:

Haven't heard anything about her withdrawing. On ESPN they said that she said she was going to get it looked at, but is still expected to compete at Charleston. Nice looking draw for her, lets keep our fingers crossed that the injury was minor and that shes ready to go full steam!

I'm not sure if I want Serena playing or not. I'm so apprehensive about her knee that if she withdrew I wouldn't be upset. I just don't know where I stand on that issue. I want her to play though and if she feels she can on a real competitive level without it flaring up again or causing further injury, then I'm all for it.

I rather like the draw. I want her to face some strong competition to get her more into that strong tennis mode we're all used to Serena being in. Go Serena!!!!

So the knee that was bothering her is the same knee she had surgery on? I wasnt sure about that, for some reason I thought it was the other knee.

Serena Williams (2):
R1 - Bye
R2 - Arantxa Parra
R3 - Conchita Martinez
QF - Nadia Petrova (/Paola Suarez)
SF - Amelie Mauresmo
F - Justine Henin-Hardenne

This draw is much harder, IMHO. All claycourters and all of them are in form.

Good luck Serena! Defend your finalist points. :bounce: :bounce:
Correction: Serena will play, and lose to, her sister in the final, not Justine. ;)

THERE ARE THREE LEVELS OF PLAYERS ON THE WTA TOUR:
LEVEL 1--VENUS WILLIAMS
LEVEL 2--SERENA WILLIAMS
LEVEL 3--everybody else
ALL HAIL QUEEN VENUS!!!
I think you have your levels a little mixed up.
LEVEL 1- SERENA
LEVEL 2- really great players
LEVEL 3- really good players
LEVEL 4- everybody else

Like Machu, I also prefer for Serena to have a competitive field to help get her match tough. It's funny but I actually wish Serena had an even more challenging draw, I really do feel as if Serena is up for the competition. This event is jammed-packed with top players so this will be a nice event to help Serena know what she needs to do to elevate her game for the French...

...word from the GM board is that Mauresmo has pulled out and Lindz has replaced her as the 3rd seed. She's now in the bottom half with Serena. I'm not sure what else has changed, if someone could update Serena's draw, thanks.

I know, but she's still theoretically defending those points.

Edited!

Now Serena's draw looks somewhat like her Amelia Island one. (Petrova, Davenport, Henin-Hardenne)

Today Serena goes into action. Like Coral from the RealWorld said- "I don't wrestle, I beat up bitches."
Lets go Serena!

Serena's going to face Kelly McCain instead of Arantxa Parra in the 2nd round. I would rather she met Arantxa, a claycourter, so that she would be better prepared for Conchita in the 3rd round.

Who is Kelly McCain?? You dont envision Serena not making it past Conchi, do you? I think shell be fine till her SF. Is everybody all in agreement that shell take care of Pertrova this time around?

Kelly McCain is a WC from the US, I believe.

It's not that I don't think that Serena will get past Conchita. It's just that Conchita almost beat Justine last week and is looking very dangerous. A tougher second round wouldn't hurt Serena's chances of beating Conchita, right? :)

I agree with you and I welcome some really good competitors for Serena. I actually think Serena going down to Petrova last week was the best preperation for Serena playing against Conchita. She's approaching all of her matches with her eyes wide open, focused and determined.

Good Luck RENA!!!

It looks like Serena is the only person in the bottom half of her draw that moved into the third round yesterday. Everyone else in her draw played their 1st round match yesterday and will play their 2nd round match later today. So Im guessing that Serena will have today off and play Conchita on thursday, if Conchita beats Tarny Ashley. Whoever she plays they will be playing their third consecutive match, Serena should be well rested and ready to go.
