Serena's victory over CLAY-COURT GODDESS Mary Pierce, who is, by the way, ranked in the top 30, bodes much better than Christine's 2-set squeaker over Safina. Christine's had two weeks off, Serena's playing back-to-back on different surfaces. Is Serena playing better tennis than Christine, because the way Christine played against Safina, Mauresmo will lose to Serena in the final, not Christine!

By the way, in Justine's squeaker, she hit 21 winners and 46 unforced, 12 doubles, and was broken 4 times, by someone who SUCKS on clay. Serena: 2 doubles, never broken, 42 winners, and 19 unforced.....is someone playing better tennis than 'THE HAND'?

OK, why is Mary Pierce a clay court Goddess? Because she won the French?

Well she is having very good results! I am positive Serena will beat any player in Amelia's draw to win her 2nd title this season. :)

Serena's obviously back as a main contender but she needs to beat the top players before she can claim to be the best again: results not fan rhetoric is what determines the pecking order. mary Pierce is a good scalp but she has hardly played recently and hasn't won a tournament in 4 years, so the goddess appellation is a bit overdone, imo.
