Are we still going to say they are doing just fine?

BTW, they lost to Farina/Schiavone, who have never been noticed as a good doubles team...

Martina was playing with Liezel Huber this week.

Farina & Schiavone were runners up at the Paris Indoors in February.

IMO, this is a pretty bad loss for Martina b/c Sveta & she beat this same team in Berlin on clay last year, 6-1 6-2.

Before anyone starts blaming her serve, let me add that Martina served well throughout the match and was not broken in either the second or third sets.

its still pretty dire.
remember last season martina won 7 doubles titles, with 3 different partners, including a tier 1 title, and got tothe final of the open. Add to that a No. 6 ranking and 2 mix doubles slams and the conclusion is obvious. She was still one of the best doubels players in the world.

This season is a different kettle of fish. There have pretty much only been disappointments. I think she can't be playing as well.

I wish she had played singles last year, when she was doing better.

But Liezel is in poor form, too. She played bad with her two regular partners, Ai and Maggie!

I think the problem is the partnership... both Martina and Lisa should be with powerful baseliners. The ideal partner for both of them is Lindsay Davenport which is unfortunate for them... ;)

Looks like the singles really helped the doubles...

Seriously though, I hate to see Martina going out in such a poor state this year after last year was such a success for her.

6-2 2-6 6-3. It's not like Martina and her partner didn't have their chances.

That's true. They had game points in both those service games they dropped in the third set.

You got that right !

Im not sure I buy that as a reason that as martinas real reason for playing singles, I think its more to do with seeing how she matches up, encouraged after a great season last year, and having fun with the crowd one last time. Maybe if she rocked in singles, she's thinking in the back of her mind that she'd play SW19 once more, but I dont see it happening........ the timing might be terrible, its all clay all of the time for the next few months, her worst surface, so dont hold your breath for glory martina fans, although who knows with that woman.

btw, Milagros only got one game from petrova...... So that doesnt make martina singles look any better....

Navratilova is not partner with Lisa Raymond in this tournament, she partners with Huber.

Huber is bad since she partnered Ai. Seems Maggie was better partner for her!
