Tennis Australia is also pushing for the season to end a week earlier, giving the Davis Cup finalists 6 weeks instead of 4 weeks off.

It's interesting that this article says that if the Davis Cup moves up one week, the off-season would be 8 weeks. It would actually be 6 weeks for Davis Cup finalists. Maybe they meant to say that they are pushing for the Davis Cup to be held 3 weeks earlier.
I think pushing the season back by a week is a good idea. That means the 2007 season will start January 8th. That's a lot better than starting in late December or the first couple of days of January.
