everyone should do the same ;)
Kristina is wise :) better to save face than face public humilation.

Kristina was in a lose-lose situation.

Perhaps it was too much pressure for Brandi. Remember what happened to Panova. She said it was an embarrassing loss. I could understand Brandi...

Yeah, that's true. I would love to see Martina returns in singles but I knew it's not fair for all of her opponents like Tatiana said before.

Maybe all players will withdraw and Martina will win this tournament!!!

Serena had a great comeback but Martina's comeback would beat that 100%

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Yeah...she could do that at every tourney and win every grand slam for the next 40 years...

Regain the number one ranking without ever playing a match...

I agree with Anabel. Even if you lose, how great to be able to say that you played Martina Navratilova! Even better to be able to say you beat her!

And how bad would yu feel knowing yu are playing some of your best tennis of late, only to lose to 47 year old veteran, who hasnt played professional singles tennis in 10 years :tape: . (apart from 2 matches 2 years ago)

well if you're afraid of losing you shouldn't be out there. Competitors ought to love challenges (though I'm not sure if martina will be much of a challenge -- we'll see!)

I think this is actually a fine draw for Martina. Sequera isn't the clay expert everyone is making her out to be; we're just assuming assuming that because she's South American. In 2003, she lost to SVETLANA KRIVENCHEVA in 1st round of qualies Sarasota, qualified for Charleston and Amelia Island, but lost in the 1st round to Shaughnessy and Craybas, and then lost in the 2nd round of French Open qualies to Natalie Gussoni.

Her big result in Quebec city was impressive, but she really got a favorable draw. She beat Melien Tu, Maureen Drake, Marion Bartoli, and a very injured Mary Pierce to get to the finals.

And her results since the ankle injury? She's 0-4 on the year, hasn't even won a set. And two of those losses were on clay: to Samantha Stosur and Antonella Serra Zanetti...and they weren't even close.

That being said, there's more pressure on Martina now, regardless of whether or not she admits it. If she lost to Brandi, it wouldn't be so bad. If she falls to a lucky loser that hasn't even won a match (or a set) all year, she's going to look awfully silly.

Martina should win though. I'm thinking 6-2 6-3. Sequera is a lot like Brandi in that her game is more of a defensive one. She's going to get a lot of balls back and work the ball around. She's 5'2", so she won't overpower Martina. Martina is going to come into net, force Sequera to be aggressive (which she's not used to doing) and hit clean passing shots for 2 sets (something she's not used to do either in singles)

It doesn't matter , really. Given Nadya's recent form, MN will be lucky not to get double-bageled anyway.

Nav said last year she would retire this year from both singles and doubles. Let's hope she follows through and joins the hall of fame (if she's not already there).
