WOW!! She is amazing!! We may just be calling her the best ever!!
That is alot of titles in 7 years!! Seems most of her losses came when she was 15-16 years old. But her hard work has paid off for her. Heck,95% of the tour with both feet on the ground, have not come close to what she has done. Move over Martina and Steffi ! This girl may go down in history books as the best singles and doubles player ever!!! Much respect for her and her hard work!! I hope we hear alot more about her in the years to come.:worship:

Tnx to Altavista Babel Fish Text Translation

My tale "How it all begun?" That is a question which a lot of people to me ask. With that they not only mean how I have been come into contact with tennis but also how I have come in a role chair. Probably also will wonder much of your you this. For this reason will put it I now try on paper. This will be not easy, certainly because I recover complete never earlier on paper have put. Up to my 6th year I was in fact a complete healthy little girl. I had something up nothing and I did everything what my leeftijdgenootjes also did. I went to school, did play games and will stay at vriendinnetjes. I had even never been at a doctor!

http://www.esthervergeer.nl/images/esther/es_bedk.jpg http://www.esthervergeer.nl/images/esther/estheropbedk.jpg

On 21 March 1988 all misery started. On that evening I had just like all leeftijdgenootjes zwemles. After I 7 meters had swum under water felt I suddenly heal themselves dizzy become. When I had finished my baantjes and I at the side came, I have asked the bath superintendent if I could rest just as because I did not feel myself this way nice. I think that I two minutes still no or I touched zat unconsciously. As from that moment weet I not this way much more. Everything went as a flits beyond.

I was brought to the local hospital. There they decided that they could not help me there and I was brought with large emergency to the UMC (then still the AZU). After a scan they observed that I fought - or bloedophoping in my brain had to be operated and had immediately. A drain in my head was placed, blood was removed. At this operation very my head had be shaved bald. That found I, however, this way a lot. After 6 weeks in the hospital to have lain I (then still current) could on 30 April to. I had my old leventje simply take up as if nothing had happened.

By the end of October 1989 started I get complaints in my groin. Nobody knew where that came from. The general practitioner sent me on 14 November to the hospital to will obtain there a back puncture. After I prick these became I had had terribly sick and had I in the hospital remain. I had remain there for further researches. During the holidays I could to house, afterwards we would weerzien, however, what will there happen. But unfortunately it went even during the holidays wrong. I got a type lord haemorrhage and had operated directly become to let place a drain. The holidays went to me beyond without I had of it weet.

After all researches they could tell me at last what there was exactly to the hand. There a blood barrel deviation appeared sit around my back marrow. These blood barrels were this way weak that they could jump spontaneously. Here therefore those lord haemorrhages came from. To occur that I would get again a lord haemorrhage, I had to the AMC to let operate me. This operation was very risky, but there was no choice. On 15 January to the operation chamber it was brought where I have been operated for 9 hours.

On the uitslaapkamer they reached the discovery that my legs no longer worked for 100%. Concerning the operation they were satisfied, but the fact that my legs no longer did it they had been shocked. After the operation I had lie for a week on my abdomen, I went by a hel. I could not move myself, saw nothing of what there for me gone happened and was very frightened. After a beetje for repairing, could I starts March weekje to house afterwards the hospital enter for the continuation operation on 19 March. After this operation everything would be beyond, no more hospitals and I simply to school are possible. Because I this way gladly to house want, I have been dismissed on 4 April 1990 from the hospital and was possible I to house. At last!!!

After in the hospital to have lain I had to the rehabilitation centre. There a complete programme had been composed where I had stick to. This a this way optimum possible convalescence must ensure. In this programme also the component sport had been processed. I could meet on playing wise with my role chair. Because of this I had receive how I the bests with a role chair had handle. I did several sports. From table tennis to zitvolleybal, from tikkertje to tennis. Two sports jumps for me straight away. This were tennis and basketball. These two sports attracted straight away the attention and want I best further in continue there.

Basketball
This way said this way done. I have gone in search to clubjes where I member of could become. This became "De Springers" in Gouda. I my basketball has started career. I say career because many people do not know that I heal long basketball have spelled and that also a large role has played in my tennis career. After two years at this club to have sat, I was invited for the national youth team. This meant that I more had train will and that it better would be for my development if I went to another club. I have then arrived at "Antilope" in Utrecht. A complete good club which belongs to the top of the Netherlands. After two years here to have trained and in the youth team to have sat I was even invited for the national lady team. A dream which ended up. I belonged to the real top. I could meetrainen and I have been to a tournament in Germany. After tournament and the vele trainings came I that I was not yet for the lady team. I could not combine it all with school and with tennis. I have just as got off therefore. Because I could leave basketball not entirely falls I am, however, to continue train. This led to the fact that I return in 1997, in demand became for the lady team. I want it, however, a time try. In the meantime was I with tennis also nice to the way for building, therefore it became, however, terribly very at that moment. But I thought on that moment that I managed everything and went simply meetrainen with the national lady team. In June I myself have played still the European championship. And won. These are nevertheless experiences which I not missing would have wanted. In 1998, me the question was asked what I now exact savage will do. Tennis or basketball, because together was almost no longer combine. The basketball team could no longer for 100% on me count because I had frequently also tennis trainings at the same time with basketball trainings. I had choose therefore. That a complete difficult choice was because I it both terrible leuke found sports. Eventually I for tennis have nevertheless chosen because for me a there more challenge lay. With that I could reach still this way much that want try I simply.

http://www.esthervergeer.nl/images/esther/estherbb3k.jpg http://www.esthervergeer.nl/images/esther/estherbb2k.jpg
Tennis The second sport which attracted me a lot of tennis. In the rehabilitation centre I a beetje ball feeling would have wanted and it kindest at an association on lesson. Accidentally the one were who accompanied me in the rehabilitation centre with sport (awl Duyn) clubje to setting up in Nieuwegein. There want will look at I also sometimes at. I had been immediately sold and will myself also register with a club in woerden. After a number of weeks lesson to have followed I was approached by the then bondscoach (Marc lime man). He invited me or I want do with an international youth tournament in France. There the world top of the rolstoeltennissers also be and at the same time had we, youth, its own tournament. It the first time that was I games played, but I found it this way terrible. I came in the half final and lost there of Sonja peters, whom first tournament also its played. After that tournament am I will train at Marc lime man and will I in the summer a number Dutch toernooitjes play. This all took place in 1994. after 3 years to those Dutch tournaments to have was participated it according to Marc time to once will look at how I stood in front internationally there. In 1996, I played my first international tournament, in Belgium. As from that moment could I measure myself with the world top and appeared that I could come rather. Of course were much train for that a condition. I had 2 in weak to Amsterdam to time train. Thereby came also still that I played basketball, therefore all in all had I best busy that moment. I have only played tennis for two years in Europe. These tournaments fell all beautiful in the summer holiday and could I therefore well combine with school. Because of this I nothing and touched I missed. Because my chances had come of taking part in the Paralympics 2000 in Sydney in visibility, in 1998, all serious and went I started it become for the first time to America. Jeetje what was a travel that say. This way far gone and not knowing what me stood wait. My first U.S. open were there, I won him immediately and shot as a result also immediately of spot 15 to 2e the spot on the world rankingses. I heard that moment entirely. In 1999, my objective was, the number 1 conquer position on the world rankingses. It succeeded me. After a tournament in America to have played, which I had played never earlier, I got this way many points that I number 1 became. Madly glad I was, that true I was concerning had dreamed. Unfortunately I was by it thrown in October of the same year as from Australian (Daniella Di Toro). Thus appears but that say it where is what them. "Aan the top comes is easy, but there remain the moeilijkst" are;. I had this year in fact but aim 1 for eyes: that was gold at the Paralympics. There I preceded heelmaal. Fortunately I have that obtained and I the number has even obtained 1 position on the world rankingses. My year is possible no longer piece and I want continue still with tennis certainly to the Paralympics in Athens in 2004.

I think we should have much respect for all of the handicaped people who do sports. How often do we "normal" people say: "I can`t do that" (me, too! ) but look at these people and learn how they live with their handicap and achieve so much.
