with how much shes given to the sport, dont you think you could just let her have a little fun... my God... when it was "her day" she never had a crowd on her side. now people cheer her name and she likes the feeling. and who knows, she may win a round or two... better than wasting another wildcard on alex or someone else, no offense.

most top players now feel that they have to stop once they hit 25. Be thankful that there is a player out there trying to prove that you can have a longer life on the tennis court. Maybe with her example and agassi's, more of your favorites would jkeep playing.

Whatever the tour is today, all the players and the fans have people like martina and BJK to thank for it.

Just look at the sorry state of many womens sports and compare it to tennis and think about how that happened. It came about cos some players really worked at it...... and navratilova is at the top of that list.

Despite how great a player she is, she was basically shunned is many spheres 'cos of her sexuality. Thats not cool in my book, but i guess from your 'lockerroom' comment you dont agree, cam'ron.

Martina persisted despite the descrimination, helped the game to grow, broke records all over the place, and if she wants to play singles (as a top ten doubles player and current holder of 2 slams) I have no right to object, and with respect, I dont think you do either cam'ron.

c'mon, give her a break :) :) :)

I understand everything that she has done for the sport...I have a lot of respect for her...I just believe that her time has passed and there are other roles for her to play...It's not my tour and I cant REALLY tell her what to do...It's just my opinion that she would do a world of good in another role...

PS. my locker room comment was just a silly joke...:D

AMEN!

And when I saw her play Monica a few weeks back she was holding her own, and moving quite well for her age so I wouldnt be surprised to see her in the third round atleast.....

Navratilova is still likely a top hundred singles player right now. Why SHOULDN'T she play? Because she won't ever be #1 again? Don't you think most weeks, the #250 player knows they are never going to be top ten? Why can't she play for the love of it, if she can still compete?

She's highest ranked USA doubles player. #7 in the world. Right now. Higher than Lisa Raymond, higher than Chanda Rubin, higher than Lindsay. Any tournament looking to make money would LOVE to ber able to give Nav a wioldcard. 'give the up and coming players a chance'? The up and coming players aren't as GOOD!

The #1 ranked doubles player IN THE COUNTRY wants a wildcard to singles, and you think I should waste it on the #1 ranked player on the local college team. Are you independently wealthy? Because you could never make any money off a business running it that way. Running a tennis tournament is a business venture.

Brandi better not lose to Navratilova or else I am sure the journos would start again with the depth of WTA being so shallow that a 47 year old coming back to win a match, blah, blah.

Good luck Brandi - let's stop this non-sense. :bounce:

I'm glad she's playing this match because it is simply more interesting that way. :)
