I just had a message from a very excited Marsha who had just spoken to Arantxa...
she's definitely playing Olympics in Greece
She will play mixed dubs at the French and Wimbledon with Todd Woodbridge, and a couple other doubles tourneys, most likely Berlin and Rome (don't know with whom)
That's it for now ;)

OMG! I missed Arantxa so much, I can't wait to follow her again, even if it is just a few doubles events and Olympics. And Todd :bounce: They won 2 Slams together and made a couple of other finals.
Thanks Lee Waters Boy and Marsha! Marsha must be so happy she spoke to ASV, she is a huge ASV fan and still sends a lot of fans round the world any news she has by email :)
I feel like screaming and crying! :o
 Happy tears :p

All right :bounce:
And Arantxa just might do a "Martina N." and win those grandslam mixed doubles titles seeing as she found a great partner in Todd. :)

As expected she chose Berlin to be her starting point. I wonder though wether or not she´s to team Conchita for those 2 (maybe 3 with Paris) and leave this as an indication she´s to play with her for Athens. If there´s more than just one team to go for Athens, Ruano and Serna would be the 2nd team.
ASV will play with Serna or Medina
Badebua is exactly correct here -- Spain will be sending a six-woman delegation to the Olympics, including TWO doubles teams, so no one needs to feel Arantxa has "stolen" someone's spot.
And it will be Anabel Medina Garragues that Arantxa will play with in Greece. It makes sense she would also play with her as a warm-up, but Arantxa didn't say.
If there is anyone in this thread (or anywhere) who wants to get on my "Arantxa updates" mailing list, private message me here and I'll get you on it. I have a little more news of a non-tennis nature that I'll be mailing out to the list.
Thanks for doing this posting for me, L-WB! *LOL*

Medina's hardly played any doubles, has she? Hmm. Still, Arantxa did extremely well with Sveta - another talented but previously inexperienced doubles player. I suppose this is the 'fairest' combination in that Conchi and Vivi are both much higher ranked... still I'd have liked to see the Aranxta/Conchi team again.

Pity we wont see ASV and Conchita play together; I cant see Medina winning a doubles medal somehow. But as Saki says, this seems to be the fairest combination.

Welcome back, Arantxa! :bounce:
A question for anyone more familiar: Does Spain get 3 or 4 Olympic singles spots?
Apr 8th, 2004, 04:19 PM
Wow! That's interesting! I hope Arantxa somehow gets to play against Serena in doubles...maybe we'll have some cheap shot volleys goin' on there! I wonder if Arantxa ever got over Serena literally trying to take her head off at the French Open?

I hope Arantxa will put up decent performances and not be too rusty :)
Apr 8th, 2004, 04:22 PM
good decision by Spain, just one question will Sanchez Lorenzo be going then?
Apr 8th, 2004, 04:28 PM
Good to see her back and good to see that there's room for her inclusion. Nobody's really going to miss out if Arantxa plays doubles especially if Serna receives a singles slot.
I'm surprised Arantxa isn't playing with Conchita or Virginia but Anabel isn't a bad partner. Before she got injured at the Australian Open in 2002 she was regularly amongst the top 16 seeds at Slams for women's doubles with Maria Jose Martinez and together they won several lower tier events. She knows how to play - an outside bet for the bronze medal!!
