Mary Pierce is pretty good on this stuff, but she's rusty(hopefully she's inshape)

With Megs. you never know what you're going to get.

Exactly and with Meghann she would least run down Serena's shots more. Either way I don't think either are playing aggressive enough to challenge Serena even though this would be the best opportunity to test her on clay.

No way. Serena proved last week that she has lost all the rust. This week she will shut up her critics (like you) and will win her 2nd straight title, or at least reach the final and do respectably well vs. the Worlds No. 1.

If Mary is "on" then she could pose a threat, but her movement is limited. The clay will help with that. Meghann is in a slump right now (not that Mary isn't either). I don't see Meghann beating Serena, but I'll give Mary 25% odds to beat Serena. :)

I don't know what WILL happen, but I know what I WANT to happeen.

I want Mary Pierce ti beat Meghann Shaughnessy easily enough to give her a little boost. And I want her wake up on the morning of her match with Serena, and she decides that 2000 Roland Garros champ is show the 2002 Roland garros champ that she still got game. To the tune of Mary wins the first set 6-2. Serena stops being caughtious and takes a second set tie-breaker.

And then it gets wild and wooly.

yeah.

That could work.

We will see........nothing is impossible in tennis, but I don´t know if mary is really ready to run down Serena´s blasts.

Serena has too much for Mary at this point.
Meghann on the other hand, she is dangerous against top players most the times.

They both can beat Serena. I hope Serena left the Nasdaq facilities on Saturday, hit I-95 and went to practise on some clay in the Amelia area. Megs and Mary have had a little extra time to practise on it.

I would say: impossible is nothing in tennis :)

Could Mary or Meghann pose a threat? Absolutely! If either one of these players is on and their shots are mostly falling in, then either one has a shot, even if it's not a big shot- it's still possible. Their kind of games aren't the types that would normaly cause Serena any concern. She can "take" pace just as good as she can "give" it and there's nothing that either Mary or Meghann can do better than Serena. Serena's overall game has fewer weaknesses to take advantage of.

Doubtful. Meghann is so inconsistent, and she only plays well against Venus, it seems.

Pierce? Possible, but remember last time Serena played her on clay? 6-1 6-1. :tape:

Could Megahann or Mary pose a threat to Serena on clay?

A hot Meghann, when she's playing her 3 good weeks of tennis per year... possibly.

Mary... no.

These two can only threaten Serena if they are holding a 12-guage to her head.

Could Megahann or Mary pose a threat to Serena on clay?
My response would be as Redd Foxx playing Fred Stanford once answered a question with a question: "do mice bark?"

I don't know if it's just the way Mary looks or if she really starts to tear up when she looses a point but I think she can if she stays posititve.

Megahann couldn't play her way out of a paper bag

early on, they can be threats, but realistically winning, no. here are some people who are real threats later in her draw, but when serena gets going, she'll be tough to beat. early on is more likely.

The last time mary played Capriati before her most recent win over her, Mary lost 0-6 0-6. After everyone said Mary would lose, she won. She's obviously pretty fearless nowadays.

I'd feel better if Rena were to meet first Tian Tian Sun or Amy Frazier. But as it is, she should be alright.

If Mary Pierce is IN THE ZONE, she will win. Unfortunately we haven't seen that happen since RG 2000. But if she is playing her absolute best level tennis, she will win in 3 sets.

If she's been playing her improved, but nowhere near top 10 glory days level of tennis: Serena will win 6-3 6-2.

If Shaughnessy is on: She'll push Serena, maybe even take a set. But Serena will win, probably to the tune of 6-4 6-4

If Shaugnessy is playing her normal game or is off: Serena won't drop more than 4 games.

Mary at her best v/s Serena at her best  but Mary though looking really "in shape" isn't exactly match fit.

I think Mary can give Serena a threat. She's always one in my opinion.
