Feb 21st, 2002, 09:20 PM
do you like em or hate em?

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:22 PM
who are they?

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:38 PM
Hi Kisha! :wavey:
They're ok, but I thought "21 Seconds" was one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard.

I think Oxide and Neutrino are quite good, they do way better tracks when they're not with So Solid.:wavey:

lol. The So Solid Crew are a group of MC'S, singers and rappers from Great Britain. They have about 35 members in their group.

They hits include 'Haterz' and '21 seconds'.

Hey Izzy!

i loved 21 seconds and the video was fantastic.

Oxide and Neutrino are great when they are out on their own, but alot of the songs that are the 2 of them feature members of so solid on their anyway, so they dont break away alot.

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:47 PM
I just feel with them its not about the music but the rep and image and all the things that go with it. They aren't the bestrole models but I do like their songs:)

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:49 PM
I think they're awful. I don't mind Garage music, but they should be locked in a garage and the key thrown away. And will someone tell that Oxide or Neutrino (dunno which one) to wear a bloody shirt, he'll catch his death in this weather.

No, don't like em.

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:50 PM
I liked that song of theirs, I can't remember what it's called but it goes...
"It's just the little things..."
I'll remember what it's called in a minute!

Feb 21st, 2002, 09:59 PM
izzy - oh no sentimental things was whats its called.

i can see you feel its about the rep Mark. They always sing about all their money and cars and stuff, but again so do most people.

alot of whats happened isnt their fault, but a fair percentage is.

One of the people who i really admire in the so solid crew is Lisa Maffia. She had her baby daughter, Chelsea, when she was 16 or 17 and is able to be a great mum as well as balancing a full time career. its a great thing to do.

I thought their performance at the brits redeemed the show from total farce. It was a good performance. The best bit was wot they nicked from Knightrider though. ;)

I have to say that they have some talent, but I'm still trying to figure out what that is.

Don't actually like them though.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned the So Solid controversy yet, especially one member being convicted of assault for smashing a 15-yr old girl's jaw when she spurned his sexual advances.

My take is: a lot of the Crew are obviously twats, Skat D especially. (Incidentally, I would love to ask Lisa Maffia exactly what she thinks of her fellow band member's misogyny.) However, you don't need to be a nice person to produce great music, and SSC do that admirably - '21 Seconds' was, frankly, genius. They're clearly preoccupied with violence, but then so is Tarantino.
Still, Oxide & Neutrino are *much* better on their own - their Execute album is more coherent and more innovative than the SSC album - 'Devil's Nightmare', what a tune - and SSC's paranoia is getting a bit wearing. Musically they're amazing, but they seem to have very little to say beyond how much money they're earning and ranting insanely about imaginary 'haters'. Still, great performance at the Brits, fantastic revival of the indie ethic, and they blow most other things in the charts out of the water.

"muscially they're amazing"

I'd love you to expand on that theory Sartrista.

Musicality to me comes from rhythm and harmony.... SSC have some of the former (even if not that original), and, from what I've heard of them, very little of the latter.

I love So Solid Crew!! Kaish looked gorge at the brits! :hearts:
Isn't one of the members going out with one of the girls from Mis-Teeq?!

Feb 22nd, 2002, 06:21 PM

Feb 22nd, 2002, 06:25 PM

cmon_kim01 - Romeo is dating Alesha from mis teeq.

Ms Dynamite has recently joined the crew. some of you might know her from the 'boo' track she did with Sticky.

thefreedesigner - sorry I didn't reply earlier, I've been horribly ill. Anyway, here's a review I wrote ages ago of an Oxide & Neutrino single, and many of its merits are applicable to SSC's music too. Incidentally, I have to say that Oxide is fucking gorgeous.

OXIDE & NEUTRINO: U Can’t Stop Dis Shit (Rap Diss)/Only Wanna Know U Cos Ure Famous (EastWest)

This time last year, with just their dire reworking of the Casualty theme tune to their name, it was easy to dismiss Oxide & Neutrino as a crude novelty act. Such thoughts are emphatically swatted away here with the sparsely dismissive, S Club 7-baiting ‘U Can’t Stop Dis Shit (Rap Diss)’ and the vibraphone-led, bass-heavy fury of ‘Only Wanna Know U Cos Ure Famous’. Compressed, eloquent rage and claustrophobic menace dominate both to superb effect, while Neutrino’s raps are those of a man possessed; it’s disturbing and magnificent. The presence of convicted child-beater Skat D is irrelevant when considering the song’s artistic merit, as is the So Solid Crew offshoots’ lyrical and musical preoccupation with violence. Kids, genius never had to be nice.
