The Club For Canadians

This is for my fellow Canadians on the board so that we can have a place of refuge! I mean, if those spooky "Momosapiens" and those silly "Flems" can have a place, so can we!

BTW: I'm from Cambridge, ontario! Where are you from? I know that the lovely Becca is from Toronto. And Randy Hoffman is from Penetang. Fingon is from Toronto as well!

Never been to either, though Cambridge isn't too far away, my friend has loads of family down there :)

as mentioned, I'm from Penetang, which is an obscure little town right on Georgian Bay Ontario ;) Most knows us from the Super Jail or Mental health Centre, lol

A thread for us Canadians? That's nice. We can write odes to Ron McLean, poems to the Queen, dirty limericks for Barrie_Dude, and graffiti for Jean Chretien. Or something.

As some of you know, unlike Rebecca, I'm in Toronto. Though my truest location is indicated at left. :)

The Leafs and Habs are my favourite teams, but I'll root for any of the Canadian based teams to get to the playoffs. I'm especially soft on the Senators this year.. It would be nice to see them not blow the post season again.

Yeah, but I think Detroit has lost 2 times to them this year! BTW, Stevie Y is due back in the lineup. Perhaps as soon as the game at home against the Leafs!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Detroit's fat payroll didn't stop them from blowing a 3-0 lead with 15 mins left in the 3rd period to the Canucks the other night who were playing without some key players :p
I'm sick of the Red Wings, they just whine too much...such a great team, so talented and experienced, they dont' need to whine about everything ;)

Anyways...any Vancouverites here? If so, PLEASE vote 'yes' tomorrow in the Olympic pleibiscite (sorry if I butchered that word, lol). I mean, sure, there is a strong case to be made for the No side as well, but if there was a damn vote, it should have been done loooong ago, NOT now, months before the IOC makes the final decision, and after so much time, money and effort has already been put into bringing the Olympics to Vancouver. I really don't think this vote is fair, I think a lot of people are going to vote 'no' in order to take a shot back at our provincial government and all the cuts we've had here recently.....I also dont' think it's fair for just Vancouver to be voting on this issue, the Olympics are not just about Vancouver. Whister is the focal point of our bid and the residents there dont' get a say in this, nor do people anywhere else in the province, and we will be every bit as affected by this decision as the city of Vancouver will be. The vast majority of people around where I live support the Olympics - I'm sure most people in Vancouver also support the idea of the Olympics, and I just hope they dont' vote 'no' to spite Premier Campbell. I strongly disagree with the way that Vancouver mayor Larry Campbell and his COPE councillors have gone about doing this :fiery:

Hawk
Feb 22nd, 2003, 04:21 AM
So if the majority vote 'no' then the bid is dead?

Hi to all Canadians,
I'm from Ottawa and it is good to see so many Canadians here. I don't think that there is anybody else from Ottawa here, which makes me unique.

Crazy Canuck
Feb 23rd, 2003, 04:30 PM
Ottawa! I have lots of friends in Ottawa, but I can't say that I'm from there - or that I've ever even been there :o

It's only fitting that the nations capital is represented ;)

How about those Sens? ;)

Hawk
Feb 23rd, 2003, 05:34 PM
Looks like the yes vote won in Vancouver for the Olympic games. 64% voted yes in favour of the games! :bounce:

Mitch01
Feb 23rd, 2003, 06:31 PM
Yes, phew. There was a huge voter turnout in Vancouver for this vote - higher than most previous provincial or civil elections :o
Even if there was a 'no' vote, the results weren't going to be legally binding, but there would be no chance the IOC would award the Games to a city where there was a lack of support.
I think now with this big majority for the 'yes' side, we'll get the Olympics. Salzburg may seem to want them more, but Italy's getting the 2006 Olympics, and the IOC likes to spread the Games out a bit. Besides, personally I think we have a stronger bid than Salzburg anyways.
Go Vancouver! :D

Well, what's happening with Montreal? Theodore just sucks this year from what I've seen. I was hoping that we could get 5 of 6 Canadian teams in the playoffs this year, but Montreal is starting to slip and Edmonton...well they're just lucky that the teams behind them are struggling too otherwise they'd be long gone. I have to admit though they played a good game against the Canucks last night, but still lost in OT...I think it was friendly of the Canucks to make sure the Oilers got a point last night before putting them away :p

Hawk
Feb 23rd, 2003, 07:28 PM
*sigh* the habs have played horrible :( but they always seem to find a way to squeak into the playoffs..I hope this year is the same. I forsee Julien getting canned if this doesn't turn around quick!

Yay Canucks!! :bounce: I hope they'll be able to catch the Stars..they've got the Blue Jackets tonight..who have lost their last 4 games!!

oggie
Feb 23rd, 2003, 10:12 PM
I don't really know how Sens are doing because I don't follow hockey, but I would like to start - it is a huge thing here in Ottawa. So what is the best way to get into hockey and become a fan of this sport? Just watch the games?
So does it mean that because I'm from the capital of Canada that I get to order you guys around, or what's the deal?

And yes, the Lake is very nice :) I love that giant (I don't even know what it's called lol) - but it looks like a giant skeleton bird with wings down by the bus terminal :o lol - It's very unique to say the least!
