I know she has been struggling on the hardcourts lately, but the clay has been a different story for Arantxa over the years. I want to know realistically what all of you think her chances will be on the clay this year and how you think she'll fare at Roland Garros. You can add your perspective on other Spanish players as well.

Personally, I believe that Arantxa should be able to defend most of her points this clay court season, with possibly the exception of the Semis of Amelia Island and I don't know if she'll be able to reach the quarters of both Rome and Berlin again. Although I am sure she'll improve her Charleston and French Open results and I believe Acapulco will help as well. I just hope that she can remain in the top 16 for the French and then hopefully make a move for the top 10 in the summer when she has no points coming off.

I believe for the rest of the Spaniards that this will be Marta Marrero's year to make a dent again on clay. I would have also had said the same for Medina-Garrigues but unfortunately it doesn't look like she'll be healthy. Of course, Conchita is always also a threat as well.

Anyway, good luck Arantxa in Acapulco, and for the rest of 2002.

I think Arantxa will always be dangerous in clay. Last year she did well , (less at Roland Garros), losing to tought matches at Hamburg Berlin & Rome ( Hingis & Dokic) and at Amelia Island ( Mauresmo , the winner), winning 2 titles. I think that the Roland Garros defeat was ominous for her and that it conditioned the rest of her season. I hope she can win some matches in Acapulco to get confidence.

I actually think that we'll get to see the real Arantxa next week in Acapulco! ASV was born to play on the clay courts
