Geoffry Named Player Of The Month For January
First-time honour for Australian Open champion
February 12th, 2004

The PAW (Pick-A-Winner) administration announced on the 12th February that Geoffry was named Player of the Month for January, as voted on by the International PAW Committee. Geoffry becomes the first recipient of the inaugural award, which will run for the 10 remaining months of 2004.

Playing in his first event in the Gold Coast, the Belgian finished a respectable 29th, from only 12 picks. He then followed with an impressive equal 19th finish at Sydney, beating top players in the caliber of SpikeyAidanm, sandg, speedster_ and petosp.

Geoffry in only his third tournament claimed a remarkable win at the Australian Open, winning by just 2 points of Je_ne_sais_quoi. In the month of January he had risen from a non-rank to World No #37.

The riser of the month was awarded to Australian Open semi-finalist cooldudeanzela.

Sandg, jrm take out February PAW honours
Consistent results the key to success
March 1st, 2004

Indonesian sandg was by far the most impressive PAW player during February, the current world number two finished runner-up in Tokyo to Rtael, runner-up in Paris to SpikeyAidanm, 6th in Antwerp and 10th last week in Dubai. Sandg, currently 3rd in the PAW Race to the Championships, he has made the sort of start which alerted his rivals – particular world number one SpikeyAidanm, whose ranking lead seems to be minimizing each week.

The riser of the month was given to another consistent newcomer – Slovakian jrm, who this month has placed 3rd in Tokyo, 28th in Paris, 13th in Memphis and 9th in Bogota. Now ranked in the top 75 in the world after not holding a PAW rank one month ago, jrm seems destined for champion status.

Invincible Hantuchov and rising Philip claim March PAW Awards
After Superb finishes in Miami and Indian Wells
April 2nd, 2004

Back-to-back Tier 1 Champion Hantuchov has been named the PAW’s Player-of-the-Month for March, tour officials said on Friday.

Brazilian Hantuchov picked up his second consecutive major tier 1 title in Miami this week, following his Indian Wells exploits where he claimed a narrow 5 point victory over mypapa_je in the final to claim his first ever title, beating some 110 players on the way.

Miami capped a perfect American hardcourt season for the fresh and energetic Hantuchov, who also is a very good friend of all PAW players.

In Miami, Hantuchov’s No 1 finish was already determined after the first week, an amazing dominating performance, which puts him into the world’s top 15 (after starting the month at 69) and has assured a place in the year end PAW championships for the top 16 players.

Runner-up in Miami, Philip claimed the PAW riser of the month, having also finished 4th in Indian Wells. He has indeed showed us that he can be mentioned in the same breath as Hantuchov, both are destined for long and luxurious careers.

mypapa_je and alextreiber04 notch April PAW Awards
By PAW Press Staff, May 2nd 2004

After starting 2004, ranked #34, Indonesian mypapa_je now rests comfortable inside the top 10 at #8, even more impressive is his #4 rank in the PAW Race to the Championships, where the top 16 players qualify.

Mypapa_je had an April full of success, he finished an impressive 24th in Amelia Island and claimed a stranglehold on the Charleston title building up 100 points from 7 picks after Day 1, indeed the start one can dream of. He did not collapse, winning the Tier 1 title with 1 pick to spare. The next week, mypapa_je was part of Indonesia's Fed Cup team, the most convincing team performance during that week, as they ousted a very gallant Great Britain side.

Top honours for the riser of the month went to alextreiber04, who just pipped bgbgbg for the award, alextreiber04, formerly known as "Plear," followed a semi-final in Miami, with a 2nd place finish in Amelia Island, closely stumbling to sandg in the final, and then finished the next week with an outstanding 4th in Charleston. Plear was also a member of Canada's winning Fed Cup team which rountinely accounted for Israel in Quebec City.

Players that are nominated for Player/Riser of the Month Awards automatically are in contention for the Year End PAW Awards, to be announced in late November 2004. :wavey:

K&J fan and kerbear, the star PAW players of May
May 28th, 2004

German Open Champion K&J fan has been announced PAW Player of the Month for May, PAW officials announced today.

The reigning finalist in Berlin did one better in 2004 to claim his 2nd title of the year, joining an elite group – Hantuchov and Geoffry, a triplet who happen to be the top 3 players in the PAW Race to the Championships.

Ranking wise, K&J fan reached a career high #4 and has cemented himself to climb higher as the year goes on. The Belgium No 1 also was a semi-finalist in Vienna in May, along with a 2nd round appearance in Rome.

The PAW Riser of the month was awarded to the very promising kerbear, looking to become the next big thing for the United States. Kerbear was a surprised semi-finalist (3rd) in Berlin, and also recorded an impressive 10th in Rome and 16th in Vienna. After just 5 tournaments in 2004, kerbear sits at No 105 in the PAW ranks.

Players that are nominated for Player/Riser of the Month Awards automatically are in contention for the Year End PAW Awards, to be announced in late November 2004.

The PAW Riser of the month was awarded to crazillo, who carries German expectations on his shoulders after a fine win at Roland Garros and now solidly rests within the World's Top 30.

July PAW Players of the Month Selected – SpikeyAidanm, kimclijsters4ever rewarded
August 1st, 2004

The PAW Tour announced the player of the month of July, a month which comprised of five major events including the ending of Wimbledon, the Fed Cup QF/Play-Offs, Stanford, Los Angeles and San Diego. Australian SpikeyAidanm earned the honour as the player of the month, completing an extremely consistent Wimbledon and American summer stretch which included finishing 8th in Wimbledon, 5th in Stanford, 4th in Los Angeles and 2nd in San Diego, only to fall to Conchi Party in a much anticipated final.

SpikeyAidanm also returned back to the top of the PAW Rankings after dropping to #6 after Wimbledon.

Wimbledon champion kimclijsters4ever claimed the July riser award purely on his efforts of winning Wimbledon, the Belgian was so mentally exhausted that he did not compete in any other events for the month. Kimclijsters4ever jumped up the rankings chart to within the top 20, strongly putting himself in contention to reach the top 16 in the PAW Race to the Championships.

Players that are nominated for Player/Riser of the Month Awards automatically are in contention for the Year End PAW Awards, to be announced in late November 2004.

Camoya, kafelek – take honours for August
Septmeber 3rd, 2004

Camoya has been named August’s PAW Player of the month after a remarkable hardcourt season where he captured his first title in Montreal. The Israeli, now firmly within the world’s elite top 20 came close also in San Diego where he had several “championship points” to take the crown (only for Zvonareva to waste her opportunities). He had to gust it out in Montreal as well, winning the final by one point ahead of rising MagicMilan. Camoya’s impressive month continued finishing a solid 25th in both the Olympics and in Sopot.

Polish Kafelek has been rising up the PAW ranks like a rocket this year and his never say die attitude continued to pay dividends. He finished runner-up in New Haven and was also a semi-finalist in Montreal (finishing 4th). He was awarded PAW newcomer of August.

Players that are nominated for Player/Riser of the Month Awards automatically are in contention for the Year End PAW Awards, to be announced in late November 2004.
