View Full Version : "Possible" Top Four Withdrawl From Dubai

I say this because the main draw was supposed to be out this morning NY time and will not be available until tomorrow due to a "technical problem" and according to someone in the know in the Dubai tournament section, that means that a top seed has withdrawn. The only players that could have caused the draw to be delayed are Justine and Venus because if Justine withdrew, then Venus would be the top seed and put in the top half of the draw. If it was Venus, then Jennifer would be the number two seed and head the bottom half of the draw. If it is both of them, then the whole draw is fucked up, but we will probably know sometine this afternoon who it is.

Is Jen going to show up for sure?

Apparently, it will be Anastasia Myskina.

well, if the worst happens and all the top three fail to show, at least they'll have one top 10 player in the draw :o

though I heard Jennifer was heading to Dubai so she's probably certain to play.

And according to reports I read, Venus is already there, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Justine withdrew because she has bronchitis and that isn't something you get over in a week. My sister had it when she was younger and she was out of school for three weeks.

There are so many withdrawal that the qualifying draw has become the main draw. :)

:haha: That's the case of most of the tournaments recently !!!
Well said H.Q.

I really doubt Justine is going to play... As for Venus, even if Venus is already there it doesn't mean much. She seems to love the city and maybe she plans to ask a WC to Doha which is next week.

So I suspect both Justine and Venus are out.
The only way that could happen is if Serena decides not to play (and between you and me, I don't think she is going to play) since she is entered to play at Doha.

Venus rarely plays 2 weeks in a row, other wise Doha, a field as weak as tier II can get, would be the perfect tournament for her to slaughter everyone, assuming Serena doesnt play of course with Nastya leading the way.

Is Serena going to fly all the way there just to play a Tier II? I'll eat my words if she does but yes, between you and me, I think she'll be back at Miami.
I an holding out hope that she and Venus will play IW just this year only and then not go back because they both need the match play.

I think it's weird that they haven't put out a press release about who has withdrawn. It's unfair to the fans who might be buying tickets to see the player who has pulled out.

I'm not sure who the player will be, but I'm guessing Justine or Venus. Jennifer usually pulls out of tournaments by the Friday before the draw, so I think she would have pulled out by now. On the other hand, she was spotted at a Chicago nightclub a few days ago, and I'm not sure if Jen would do that right before a tournament (picturing George Steinbrenner yelling at Derek Jeter now......)

No matter who the player is, it's not going to suprise anyone.

Well, Justine pulled out of her last match, and Venus withdrew from her last tournament. You'd have thought they'd have worked out ahead of time what to do if either of them couldn't play.

Yea, but isn't this outdoor hard court. If Venus is back to 100%, I'd say bad draw for Maggie, Jen, Juju :o

Now let JR give you "The Moral of the Story". ;)

Nobody trusts the Whores Who run this game enough to "buy a used car from them". So even if a tournament merely did have computer problems, nobody can Be Blamed for Assuming A con-job might be in the works.

This is a tough draw for Venus. She has Alicia Moilk possibly, Maggie or Francesa(Warsaw qtr. last year) in the quarters, and perhaps Jen in the semi (we know that either Jen or Venus will be upset before there semi. when they are in the same half). Venus will have a tough time even getting to the semifinal, much less even having achance to win the whole thing. If Justine is better from whatever bug she got, Justine will win this event.

 Hence the reason I said "If Venus is back to 100%"...which she wasn't in Australia.

no need badrepping me for this

I'm just fed up with this 100%-thing... it's always easy afterwards saying someone wasn't 100%...

btw, I doubt shopping in London will have got Venus any closer to that 100%

I will fall over in a dead faint if either of them plays IW.

I guess it would be a good thing for me since they would push some of the players I like better out on the smaller courts where it's more fun to see them anyway. :)

I just got home and see that the draw has been released with all top four seeds and that is great, but I still think there is going to be a withdrawl of Justine, Venus or Jennifer, but I hope not.

I don't see where this is such a bad draw for Venus. This is an outdoor hardcourt (not Rebound Ace) and this should benefit her. I see Maggie Maleeva is in her quarter of the draw and some think that will hurt Venus. If I am not mistaken, the two losses Maggie has against Venus are on hardcourt.

Justine did in fact travel to Duabi so she definately is there but she looks unlikely to play since she still suffers from illness, Venus missed Antwerp because she had the flue and not becasue of her leg as some people thought ! However I do not know wether Venus is still ill.

As HQ and I stated before, bronchitus isn't somehting you get over very quickly. I am surprised she traveled to Dubail at all.

Venus did in fact have the flu and is said to be doing much better and her leg wasn't an issue for Antwerp and isn't now, so she is likely to play, but I will believe that when I see her on the court.

Maybe people missed her turning her ankle in round one of the AO and then showed signs of limited mobility in her 2nd round match??? Venus was not 100% at AO doesn't mean she wasn't beaten fair and square she was...Still doesn't change that she wasn't 100% and all her fans noticed it...
