At 40-15 in the very first game of her first round doubles match yesterday with partner Saori Obata, Bartoli was smacked in her right eye by a returned tennis ball that forced the French player to retire from the match. But after a little healing time, Bartoli returned to singles action where she's into the semfinals for the second time this year.

:haha:

OMG....:haha:

 :tape:

That must of hurt. :tape:

Poor Marion :p

It happened to Sugiyama last year during a doubles match :o I think up at net she got hit with the ball in the eye. I think they iced it a bit and her eye was a little red but they continued :) Kim/Ai won the match too I think ;)

I used to play handball and I was hit in the head by the ball a few times. Believe me, it's not funny at all.

I laughed when I saw the video of me getting a football kicked straight at my head...why my friend filmed it in the first place, I'm not so sure...

My partner had a detached retina from being hit in the eye with a squash ball; that wasn't so funny, believe me.

Hey guys,

I would never laugh at you if you got the ball on the face.

I don't think it's too funny - she *could* have had serious eye damage!

I feel evil now

...I still found it funny when I got whacked in the head by a football, though

It really isn't funny.

As someone that constantly plays at net, I've been drilled many times. The majority of the time, it just stings a little. But, if a ball hits you in the eye, it could cause very serious damage.

I can't understand what some posters are meaning here. Their reputation had totally disappeared..if there was some reputation someday.

really some people should lighten up.
yes it could have been dangerous. yes it could of caused serious damage.
but it didnt.
therefore it makes it a little ok to have a little chuckle about it.
i mean im sure alot more people laugh when a ball hits a male tennis player in the nuts, but that COULD cause serious damage too. but its still funny. right?

;)

I think it was at the Aussie Open a few years ago where in a doubles match, a bird got hit by the ball, and I know that some people will think its cruel to laugh at but there will be some who find it hilarious

Its not a big issue if people find things like that funny

Poor girl

It was like Dinara at the AO, Maleeva hit a smash right at Dinara (both players were at the net) and it smacked Dinara square in the head.

I don't know about you but I sure wouldn't want to get Dinara mad :tape:

Yeah, it was Llodra who hit the bird. The bird died didn't it?

It is way worse to get hit in the eye with a squash ball than a tennis ball. The size of the squash ball means that if it hits your eye it hits your actual eyeball whereas a tennis ball is bigger so won't hit the eye ball with as much force as it will be deflected off the socket.

Having had a (much worse) eye injury like this when I was a child I don't find it funny at all. Nor do I see why it would funny if a male player were hit hard in the testicles. Have any of you actually had that experience, either?
