Forgot to mention Tatiana Panova (although she's ranked around #130, she would have had WC for IW)

Justine wasn't playing IW anyway

Didn't Hantuchova retire because of injury as well? Nadia Petrova has that gluteal strain and Dokic has a groin pull.

and Kim's got that floating piece of bone in her foot that she says she'll have to seriously think about in the coming months because it could affect her career.

and yeah, Justine is playing IW this year, she's skipping out on Miami instead :p

Nat Dechy is one the most injury prone players on WTA (apart from Anna and Nadia)

I think Justine's move is dumb to skip the 5th biggest tournament of the year in Miami, to play that low-down tier I at Indian Wells......pffff.....

Laugh as you may Sebastian, but Indian Wells does not even compare to the Nasdaq-100 in Key Biscayne.

I wouldn't be so sure of it...
But still - compare Indian Wells with the Tokio tournament which is Tier I as well

What makes Nasdaq bigger?? they have the same number of draws!!!! Number 1 and 2 are committed to play. Its also a two weeks tournament!!!

The only thing that make nasdaq more popular is because it was held at the same time ATP's one the biggest tournament aside from GS is also held.

no, Nasdaq has the sisters, and the finals are always good. Plus there is better TV coverage, and the atmosphere is somehow more serious.

Because the only thing that the Indian Wells tournament has ever had is Kim Clijsters, and Lindsay Davenport.

Nasdaq has the whole repetoir: Venus, Serena, Kim, Justine, Jennifer, and so forth...all the stars show up at the 5th Grand Slam.

The tournament in the dessert is so dull.

I agree the Miami tournament is better than Indian Wells, and I have thought that even before the Williams sisters boycotted IW.

The Miami tourney just looks and feels bigger and better than IW.

Ouch! What a horrible field for a "Super Tier I."

So the top seeds will be Clijsters and Davenport? That means it will probably be a repeat final with a repeat result. :( Pull a Tonya Harding on her ankle, Linds!

I know at this rate what else can happen? Indeed nasdaq has always been a bigger tournie than indian wells, its always got one if not the best draws unless seriously injured players feel they cant participate then they withdraw but rarely do you not see at least the top 3 players or 5/5 top players battling it out in the semis and finals at the ex ericcson open! Its the only tennis tournie i've actually been to, but can no longer go till 2005 by then i will have graduated from college oh wait actually 2006(because my spring brk in 05 is still in early march chucks), my spring breaks are always around indian wells time hopefully by then they might have either moved ericsson back a bit or earlier and perhaps i'll get to visit the venue, its such a great atmosphere, people are so welcoming and it was a tournie where i saw my favorite embarrass Seles well an injured one and woop some Davenport ass in 2000.

the name super tier I has always been awarded to Miami instead of Indian Wells, Indians Wells dont go the full 2 weeks and the prize money is a lot less, and the field is a lot less like slams where pretty much all seeds receive byes, rather it should be called bonus tier I. And this is exactly the kind of tournaments where top players play for rankings sake. It not uncommon to see players outside 100 to play at Indian Wells anyways, and it has always beent he case. Anyways, i wouldnt mind seeing a rematch of last year's finals, just that Kim will probably lose points defending with a weak field like that.
