She is still listed to play the exo March 23 in Tampa and now this one in Richmond the day before? That interview in the Sarasota Herald Tribune on February 6 made it sound as though she did not know the condition of her foot as she was still wearing a cast and to have an MRI 3 or 4 weeks after that interview was published.

Navratilova, Seles at Siegel Center

Richmond Times-Dispatch Feb 19, 2004

Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles (above), who have won 27 major singles women's titles between them, will play an exhibition match at the Siegel Center on March 22.

A press conference announcing details of the occasion, which is expected to include two days of activities to help raise money for two charities, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today. Navratilova, 47, who won 18 Grand Slam singles crowns, retired after the 1994 season but returned in 2000 to play doubles and has continued to stay on the court. Seles, 30, captured nine major singles titles - eight of them before she was stabbed in 1993 - but has played sparingly the past couple of years because of a foot injury. - John Packett

didn't she say last week or so that she couldn't even walk on sand?

anyhow, i hope she can recover quickly and fulfill these commitments and many others!

I thought that what she meant was that as part of her rehabilitation - that she is not allowed to walk on sand not that she was not physically able to??

I think that I may have misunderstood it though

The earlier article made it sound as though everything to do with playing was up in the air for Seles, so the 1 p.m. news conference should clarify things (and I'll bet there's an announcement that someone else will replace Seles because of the lingering injury...can't believe she'd be ready when her next MRI isn't even until next week at the earliest...).

Well if the MRI is positive, it sounds like there's no reason she couldn't play an exhibition by the end of the March. If her bone is not healed, I would expect she'd drop out.

I just hope her foot has healed and she isn't pushing it by coming back too soon.
