It's about time this extremely tall Russina got her own thread.

She just got in to the 2nd round of Memphis by defeating Sofia Arvidsson 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-1.

Galina will be ranked inside the Top 140 now, and plays Lisa Raymond next.

Udachi Galina.

You're right. Udachi Galina! I wish you and Tatiana won your doubles match.

- L i n a -
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:30 AM
Tati and Galina are a cute doubles team.

The tall and short of it. :)

goldenlox
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:31 AM
Yes. And they almost won. 6-4 in the third.

- L i n a -
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:32 AM
They're not here for doubles.

Focus on what's important. Beating Lisa.

goldenlox
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:33 AM
And beating the Queen of Tier III. That's Tatiana's job tomorrow morning.

- L i n a -
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:34 AM
Let's make predictions.

I say Nags Jr. wins 6-0 6-0, because she's very underrated.

goldenlox
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:36 AM
LOL! I wish it was on tv. Roddick and Martin tomorrow. No women.

Feb 18th, 2004, 05:36 AM
Ack... stupid Andy.

goldenlox
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:38 AM
Nobody is there. Maria's match made day 1 of the YEC last year look like a full house.

- L i n a -
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:40 AM
That's not really surprising, sadly.

But, these are the best kind of tournies to attend. I'm hoping Cincinnati is like this when I go.

goldenlox
Feb 18th, 2004, 05:42 AM
That's true. As long as they let you move closer. You could hear every sound.

KV
Feb 18th, 2004, 04:16 PM
Voskoboeva continues her progress, did more than expected in Memphis. She'll play Lisa Raymond. Very good tourney.

ys
Feb 18th, 2004, 07:59 PM
Great tournament, Galya. There is no shame in losing to the top favourite of the tournament. One more such tournament, and she won't have to qualify for Roland Garros.

Hmmm, Evanescence. Your first post in this thread sounds like something I would write. ;) I guess I'm subliminally rubbing off off you and GL. :D  :bounce:

Udachi Galina! :bounce: I hope she keeps surprising us. :)

Feb 19th, 2004, 01:53 AM
Has anyone here seen Galina play?

A poster here who attended Memphis, says that Galina is very tall, like 6'4". :o

She also needed 16 match points to beat Sofia, and was quite angry during the match.

goldenlox
Feb 19th, 2004, 03:58 AM
I went to the ITF juniors site, and they don't list Galina's height. They say 60 kg, which is 130 pounds.
She does look tall in the photos.

KV
Feb 19th, 2004, 03:39 PM
She played better against Lisa, than the result suggested. Difference Lisa took her gameponts/breakpoints, Galina wasted quite a few.

Get a good doubles partner.

This is not good - "she's slow, even for someone her size"

Get a good doubles partner.
It could be just an impression. Slowness could be deceiving. I remember when I first saw Schnyder playing I thought - God, she is slow. Only later I realised that she looks slow, but she actually is not, it is that lazy look of hers that makes her look slow.

goldenlox
Feb 26th, 2004, 04:39 AM
I hope so. Movement is a huge part of the game.

- L i n a -
Feb 26th, 2004, 04:46 AM
Tall players give that impression.

We'll have to see a few matches of her to decide.

I didn't know 50k sites looked like that. It looks like my local club.
