Natasha was the best of the 90's

in the next few years it will be Roberta Vinci.

Natasha Zvereva is my personal favourite, because of her personality and exciting game.

But the best doubles player of all time has to be Martina Navratilova. I don't know the stats, but if you looked at them that's pretty obvious. And she's still playing well even now!

Others: Pam Shriver, Gigi Fernandez, Helena Sukova.

Of current doubles players, Lisa & Rennae are the most consistent, but I have to say that the most talented doubles teams and the most enjoyable to watch are Black/Likhovseva, Hingis/Kournikova, Williams/Williams. Also Davenport/Morariu but obviously Morariu is no longer playing.

Other great current doubles players would be Aranxta Sanchez-Vicario & Ai Sugiyama.

Active players: Martina Hingis, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Lisa Raymond and of course, Martina Navratilova

All time: Martina Navratilova

I liked Fernandez/Zvereva, Shriver/Navratilova and Sanchez/Sukova [and Sanchez/Novotna] as teams

Interesting stats:

Navratilova/Shriver have the longest doubles winning streak in history of an amazing 109 matches between April 83 to July 85.

20 Grand Slams and 78 titles altogether.

Martina Hingis looks like she might equal this, as she already has 8 slams, and 34 titles at the age of 20.

Lindsay Davenport is a little underestimated as a doubles player, given that she has 3 slams, 34 titles, and 1 Olympic title.

Helena Sukova won 9 slams, 5 mixed, 68 titles altogether with various high profile partners including S-V, Hingis, Zvereva, Novotna, Graf.

Aranxta S-V has 6 slams, 4 mixed, and 61 titles in all.

I think Lindsay's Olympic title is in singles (96) and not in doubles? Arantxa has two Olympic medals in doubles too (silver in 92 and bronze in 96) + 5 Fed Cup titles, I think Arantxa and Conchita together hold the record for more victories in doubles in the Fed Cup, with a record of 18-3, going undefeated since 1989, when they lost vs. USA (Garrison/Shriver).

I haven't had time at the moment to read all the comments but I just have to say Natasha Zvereva was brilliant but Lindsay and Corina made a good team

GET WELL SOON CORINA!!!!

Current player: Martina Hingis
Current team: Serena & Venus Williams (at their best, no one can beat them).

All-time: Martina Navratilova without a doubt. She has won the most number of Grand Slam womens doubles titles - 31 in all; and the most number of doubles tournaments - 165.

All-time team: Martina and Pam, who were just too good for everyone else.

williams/williams- i agree they're good singles players but that's kinda it. personally i just disagree with their doubles game with a passion. and i'll leave it to that

the kournikova/hingis team is by far my favourite. i hope they get well soon

same for davenport and morariu

MIRNYI/KOURNIKOVA, no doubt. dont mess with max!! hes done great with serena, anna, and even martina n recently! his best is with anna of course, even though they only made it to the finals and didnt actually win as he has with serena. max and anna just go together, two really beautiful and athletic people.

it's a very tough contest b/w lisa, rennae and martina. lisa is clearly the more dominant one as she plays all the time and basically, whoever she plays, she's amazing and can improve any else's game. rennae, i believe, only plays w/ lisa, and is another amazing doubles player. as for martina, she only plays the majors - which isn't bad, it's just, you can't get very far by doing that. the more martina/anna and lisa/rennae play, it'll become clearer who the better team is. however, it won't ever show who's the best.

Martina Navratilova said that she felt that Martina Hingis was the best doubles player she has ever seen. Martina Navratilova even said that "it was an honor to play against one of today's legends" I had to read those statements more than once but after seeing Hingis demolish Raymond/Stubbs more than once and beat the Williams when teamed up with Seles for the very first time, and then crush Arantxa/Dani in Australia and in Hamburg with a brand new partner Barbara Schett, I really do have to believe that she is amazing in doubles. The Eurosport commentators apparently regularly say that Hingis gets a lot of the job done when she is paired with Kournikova. Capriati/Hingis did terribly but other than that Martina has had success with a ton of players.

I agree that Williams/Williams are also a great team and of course don't forget Martina Navratilova, Pam Shriver and Johnny Mac. I would love to see a Hingis-Serena team!!!! I know this would not probably ever happen but even in an exhibition it would be a blast. I have seen Martina standing across the net from Mark Philippoussis and just giving him a clinic. It was funny. Another good team for the future: HINGIS/HANTUCHOVA!!!!!!
