Yanina Wickmayer is playing her third tournament in India, hopefully she'll reach the second round this week. She's up against lucky loser Nelord, if she wins she'll prolly play the second seed.

Three's the charm? Good luck Yanina! :) :) :)

Well, if she wins some matches here, she can gain a lot more points I think than in Antwerp ;) Quarterfinals are played on thursday I think...

R2 Madura RANGANATHAN (IND-2) d. Yanina WICKMAYER (BEL) 61 64 :(

Because it's a grade 3, she still gains 10 points (15 minus 5 of 6th tourny) She'll go from 319 to about 292; if she plays doubles this week and does well she could go higher.
About a month ago she was #444. :)

(Granted, she gained most of her points this year in doubles. Well hurray for the combined ranking ;) Hopefully she'll start to do well in singles too though)

Caroline clearly tanked this match :o

I guess she wanted to play in Antwerp :D

Let's hope she won't come to a point where she'll regret this tank job... I mean, she's playing Taton in Antwerp pre-qualifying, so she only has a slim chance of winning IMO.

what so special about gaelle?

Wimanna
Feb 12th, 2004, 05:49 PM
Gaelle is only training today and tomorrow....she didn't train too much if I remember well what Axel said. Caroline will win I think
But Evelyne defeated Geznenge 7-5 6-1 some weeks ago...so I expected she could win this one (but she probably prefers pre-qualifying in Antwerp)

Clijsters (1) - Sanchez Lorenzo 6-1 6-0 :)

Yes, Gaelle wasn't really positive about the match because she can't train a lot due to her studies and she was tired as well, but she'll try her best for her last professional match

what so special about gaelle?

Well, after finishing her Law studies (in 2002) she asked for a WC into WTA-Brussels qualifying. There she beat the no.4 seed & lost in the final round. Then she went on a 14 matches winning streak in $10,000 challengers! She ended 2002 with a 30-6 W/L record, winning 3 titles in 9 tournaments :yeah:

She started 2003 with a QF at the $25k of Belfort (beating the no.4 seed) but then she got injured... :( She still played Antwerp but couldn't do any damage there...

If it hadn't been for those injuries and if she'd been able to play a full season she would've easily made it to the top-150 IMO.

Yeah, I coudn't agree more Bram, she's a top-150 player for sure. When I saw her last year in Antwerp (I think against Pin) she showed her potential, great backhand and punishing forehand, her serve was a little weak, but she's small. I saw a 'Justine' in her, really. That's why it's sad she retired

She has the choice of not playing profesionally and being able to play tennis for the rest of her life at a lower level, or playing professionaly and be totally worn down in some years. She has a serious injury
