Austria's Wartusch retires
INNSBRUCK, Austria (AP) - Patricia Wartusch retired from professional tennis Monday, following the footsteps of another strong Austrian player, Barbara Schett, who a few weeks ago announced she plans to quit.
Wartusch, who led Austria to two Fed Cup semifinals in the past three seasons, said she retired because of a recurring back injury and a lack of motivation.
The 26-year-old won two singles and six doubles titles on the tour and starred for her country at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
''I am very happy about what I have achieved in tennis, but it was time to finish,'' she said in statement.
Wartusch plans to coach Schett at her farewell tournament in Melbourne.
