And they wanted equal prize money for this?

Let's see - Objectively speaking, their matches are far inferior to men's tennis. They obviously don't play 5 sets. But even in 3 sets the quality of tennis is pathetic (save the odd set or two from Henin, Williams and maybe Sharapova)

They don't seem to attract enough crowd either (just look at the empty stadium)

Overall, there's lack of significant drama on court and off court.

In terms of personality, they are more or less similar(Fed, Nadal and Djoke on men's side..Sharapova and Williams sisters on the women's side)

So tell me again why do they deserve equal prize money?

And for those of you who are going to call me names, stay away from the thread. Those of you who are interested in making legitimate arguments, please contribute.

Don't have time to go into it right now, but clearly, you're being rather closed-minded when you pinpoint one womens match in order to question the equal pay argument. Then again, you didn't just focus on this match. You simply use it as a sorta springboard/soapbox for what others against equality have been saying.

Oddly, you have less chance of any of the majors by arguing against equality @ the US Open. One reason it's the best tournament is because it's been promoting equality between the two gender longer than any other Slam.

Re: And they wanted equal prize money for this?

I agree. Women play less so they should get less. Just let them play five sets or let men play three and I don't mind equal pay. Women have just as much endurance as men.

I Nadal. Serena Williams. Venus Williams

Like: Haas. Tsonga. Kiefer. Bartoli. Mirza. Zheng. Bolleli. Safina. Mauresmo. Monfils.Jie.

Hate: Djokovic. Lubjicic. Sharapova. Murray. Dementieva. Soderling.

Re: And they wanted equal prize money for this?

I watched parts of it and if I look at the winner to UE ratio in that match, it was 21-31 for Chela and 37-32 for Ferrer. Its 14-30 for Kuznetsova and 10-33 for Chakvetadze. Those stats seem to indicate the guys had a better match (and I concede, I just watched parts of that match)

I agree this match is bad, wretched, horrible... but it shouldn't be the indicator of a platform for equal prize money.

I approve strongly of equal prize money. And I also feel women should be on court longer. This would benefit the promotion of womens tennis, because the duration of match tv coverage would be more evenly distributed between the sexes.

The mens game has it fair share of paint drying sessions too. And before anyone says that womens tennis doesnt have depth.. Just remember that the mens tour has been a Sampras/Federer dynasty since the early 90's!!
