Unhappy Main Sponsor pulls out

Hastings Direct has pulled out as sponsor since being taken over. Any fans of this great seaside tournament must support it this year or else it will be removed from the calendar and, the rumour goes, re-located in London (as if it doesn't have enough already!) Let's hope a new major sponsor can be found.

Thumbs up Re: Main Sponsor pulls out

The tournament will still be backed by the LTA even if a new sponsor isn't found. It will go ahead as usual

Re: Main Sponsor pulls out

I don't know where they would put it in London?

The Eastbourne site has been used for decades for Davis Cup, national tournaments, Whiteman Cup etc. It would be ridiculous to lose it!
It is one of the players, and the fans, favourite tournaments

This tournament needs to be made far more visible in the British people's eyes.... so many times I tell people I am going to watch tennis @ eastbourne and they just laugh, thinking its some over 60's thing - - they always assume I am going to Queens when I mention I'm going to tennis before W'don.

Yeah the same was true about the tournament in Brighton years ago.

Queens has had a larger brewer sponsoring it for years and the site is smack bang in west-central in London, very easliy reached by the tube and buses.

Eastbourne is still seen as being a small mediocre retirement town for staid tory-voting senior citizens.
It's at the end of a train line 2 hours outside London..nothing much happens there

Queens has alway enjoyed extensive coverage without, if my memory serves me correctly, competition from other sports on the same days from the bbc who broadcasts it.

Eastbourne has always had megre coverage in comparison. Always having to share with royal ascot, (the horse racing) that the queen and the royal family attend, and the the farcial fashion parade that goes with it, including indepth analyisis from the extremely critical and judgemental members of fleet street of people's designer hats, which quite frankly a 4 year old in kintergarten could have made..

The best th ing for Eastbourne to do would be to move to a different week form royal ascot or to find another tv host for it's coverage..

Exactly which is why I'm wondering if it would be on one of their training grounds instead
