Teenage tennis stars heading for Pattaya
The US$170,000 Pattaya Women’s Open professional women’s tennis tournament, which is being staged at the Dusit Resort Hotel, Pattaya from 03 – 11 February has attracted two of the most exciting teenagers on the WTA Tour
Mr. Chaiyapak Sriwat, Chairman of the Organising Committee revealed that “both the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Champions have entered the tournament. The 2005 champion, 17 year old Victoria Azarenka from Belarus in her first full year on the tour in 2006 broke into the top 100 with some fine wins over Anastasia Myskina, Nicole Vaidisova and Jelena Jankovic. At this year’s Australian Open she reached the 3rd round including a win over Marion Bartoli before losing to Jankovic. Her performance at the Australian Open is likely to lift her to No 70 in the rankings.
The 2006 Junior World Champion, 15 year old Russian Anastasia Pavlychenkova playing her first year on the WTA Tour will be joining Azarenka in Pattaya. Both girls were double grand slam winners in their champion’s year at the Australian and U.S Open.”
The Qualifying rounds will be held on the 3 – 5 February with play commencing at 09.00. Main draw matches will start from the 5 February with play starting from 15.00 daily, including the finals on Sunday 11 February.
