A POST-MATCH INTERVIEW WITH:
NICOLE PRATT vs. MARY PIERCE (w)
Q. You served well today, and obviously you had a good match. How do you feel about looking ahead playing Myskina as your next opponent?
MARY PIERCE: Good. I played her in Doha a month and a half ago, I guess, and lost that match, so it'll be -- it's a different surface, first of all, and I feel like I'm playing better than then. And you know, we'll see. It's a good match for me, and I'll be motivated to try and win. I just want to keep winning every match. It's a good match for me.
Q. Your section of the draw is actually not too bad either, you know, if you're able to get beyond that. It's not the worst draw you could have, and I guess my question is you won the tournament in 2000. It was at a different location. Do you feel you're well suited for the conditions? You know, it's kind of cold. The ball may be heavier.
MARY PIERCE: I like the conditions. It's a little cold today, but other than that, the conditions -- I love clay. It's my favorite surface, the courts are pretty good here, so I think it suits my game pretty well.
Q. What is that first match on clay like? A little bit of an adjustment period there, even though you like playing on clay?
MARY PIERCE: Well, I've been practicing on clay for six weeks. I played Sarasota last week, so playing on clay for me is kind of like being at home, you know. It's like second nature. It's my favorite surface, and it's a lot of fun and I love it. So it doesn't really take much time for me to adjust to it at all.
Q. I read somewhere that -- this may not be accurate, so I'm going to ask you here, that maybe were you having trouble with the Lasix surgery or trouble seeing a little bit in Sarasota?
MARY PIERCE: Uh-huh.
Q. Is that actually --
MARY PIERCE: Yeah. I did have Lasix done, but it hasn't ?? it didn't correct my vision 100 percent, only 50 percent. So to play tennis, I'm better off with my contacts, because it's preferable to see 20/20 when you're playing a professional sport, especially when balls are coming fast at you and everything. So I'm trying to get my contact lens situation figured out. It's not the best right now. So like today I didn't play with them in, so I'm just trying to figure that out.
Q. But it's true that in Sarasota you kind of noticed, wow, I'm struggling a bit with --
MARY PIERCE: Well, my first match I played with my contacts in. I had problems seeing. It was very blurry, and then my second match I played without them.
