Charleston 1R - Mary def. Pratt 6-3, 6-2 !!

Great win for Mary! 2R vs. Myskina, who won Sarasota last week so she is in form, but Mary has nothing to lose!

Great win, Mary. Keep it up. Myskina's prolly tired from so much tennis the past two weeks so Mary has a good chance. Allez!

Congrate,Mary~!!!!

You seem have lots of confident now!!!!

"It's a different surface, first of all, and I feel like I am playing better than then," Pierce said. "And you know, we'll see. It's a good match for me, and I'll be motivated to try and win."

Go and move in the 3rd round today!!
Defeat Myskina in stright set please!!

But I afraid that she maybe lost again to Myskina. Because I remember she lost to Myskina in Doha on two month ago.

Come on piercecheng.....stop being so pessimistic!

We both know that when Mary's on form, practically she could beat anybody in the world....

Don't belive me??? take a look at these former matches of mary's...(the best of her matches, in my opinion)

1) Roland Garros 1994- Mary def Steffi Graf, 6-2 6-2
2) Aussie Open 1995- Mary def Arantxa Sanchez 6-3 6-2
3) du Maurier 1995- Mary def Martina Hingis 6-0 6-0
4) Mary def Chanda Rubin 6-0 6-3
5) Aussie Open 1999- Mary def Anna Kournikova 6-0 6-4
6) 2000 indian Wells- Mary def Serena Williams 6-1 6-2
7) Family Circle Cup 2000- Mary def :- Jelena Dokic 6-0 6-1, Monica Seles 6-1 6-1, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario 6-0 6-1

So stop being pessimistic and try to appreciate her matches, for god's sake!!!

anyway....well done Mary!!!

Hope you will beat Myskina in the next match!!!!

GO MARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I had no idea that Mary once double-bagelled Martina Hingis! Of course the Swiss Miss was so young back then but that's still a terrific result.

I love that IW thwomping over Serena in IW 2000!

Hey guys! Mary was leading Myskina 6-4, 1-6, 2-0 before a rain delay paused play in Charleston! It's a shame, because Mary had all the momentum with her before the rain. But on the bright side, at least Mary has some time to rest now. Allez!!

A POST-MATCH INTERVIEW WITH:

MARY PIERCE

following

NICOLE PRATT vs. MARY PIERCE (w)

6-3, 6-3

Q. You served well today, and obviously you had a good match. How do you feel about looking ahead playing Myskina as your next opponent?

MARY PIERCE: Good. I played her in Doha a month and a half ago, I guess, and lost that match, so it'll be -- it's a different surface, first of all, and I feel like I'm playing better than then. And you know, we'll see. It's a good match for me, and I'll be motivated to try and win. I just want to keep winning every match. It's a good match for me.

Q. Your section of the draw is actually not too bad either, you know, if you're able to get beyond that. It's not the worst draw you could have, and I guess my question is you won the tournament in 2000. It was at a different location. Do you feel you're well suited for the conditions? You know, it's kind of cold. The ball may be heavier.

MARY PIERCE: I like the conditions. It's a little cold today, but other than that, the conditions -- I love clay. It's my favorite surface, the courts are pretty good here, so I think it suits my game pretty well.

Q. What is that first match on clay like? A little bit of an adjustment period there, even though you like playing on clay?

MARY PIERCE: Well, I've been practicing on clay for six weeks. I played Sarasota last week, so playing on clay for me is kind of like being at home, you know. It's like second nature. It's my favorite surface, and it's a lot of fun and I love it. So it doesn't really take much time for me to adjust to it at all.

Q. I read somewhere that -- this may not be accurate, so I'm going to ask you here, that maybe were you having trouble with the Lasix surgery or trouble seeing a little bit in Sarasota?

MARY PIERCE: Uh-huh.

Q. Is that actually --

MARY PIERCE: Yeah. I did have Lasix done, but it hasn't ?? it didn't correct my vision 100 percent, only 50 percent. So to play tennis, I'm better off with my contacts, because it's preferable to see 20/20 when you're playing a professional sport, especially when balls are coming fast at you and everything. So I'm trying to get my contact lens situation figured out. It's not the best right now. So like today I didn't play with them in, so I'm just trying to figure that out.

Q. But it's true that in Sarasota you kind of noticed, wow, I'm struggling a bit with --

MARY PIERCE: Well, my first match I played with my contacts in. I had problems seeing. It was very blurry, and then my second match I played without them.
