Keothavong into Hobart qualifying
British No.1 Anne Keothavong will line up in the qualifying event for the WTA Moorilla Hobart International on Friday.
The 23-year-old was the last acceptance into the 32-player draw and plays top seed and world No.57 Aiko Nakamura of Japan.
The Hobart event has attracted a strong line-up which includes seven of the world’s top 50 players.
Mel South and Katie O’Brien missed out on a place in the qualifying draw.
World No.144 Keothavong says she is keen to put a disappointing week in Auckland behind her where she lost in the first round of the qualifying at this week’s ASB Classic.
“I didn’t think I’d get into the qualies in Hobart,” the Londoner said.
“I was the last player into the draw as one of the Chinese girls forgot to sign in for the qualifying event!
“I haven’t played Nakamura for a while and it will be a tough match, but I’m looking forward to having a better week than I did in New Zealand.”
Keothavong holds a 2-1 head-to-head record over the Japanese player after beating her twice in ITF events in 2004.
