Monday Night Report
I went to the night session last night. Here are my match reports
Maria Kirilenko RUS def Flavia Pennetta ITA 61 62
Pennetta played like shit. The very fist point was a long rally. Both girls hitting the ball pretty hard and flat but Pennetta hit it out. I thought that this match would have gone on forever. Kirilenko hit some nice shots but she didnít have to do anything too flash because Pennetta would just hit the ball out or into the net. Pennetta did play one good game to break serve to love in the second set. She hit some nice forehand winners but she just didnít play very good at all.
Samantha Stosur AUSdef Shuai Peng CHN57 62 61
This was a tough fought out match. When Sam came out the whole crowd went ballistic. Sam served nicely in her first game then had about 3 break point opportunities on Pengís 1st service game but didnít convert. It was a slugfest. Both girls were hitting deep and pretty hard. Sam would occasionally go for big shots but wasnít pulling them out (In the first set). She had several opportunities in the first set back but played a crappy game at 5-5 then lost the set. At 2-2 all in the second set I thought that it was heading for a tie-break. Sam started to hit harder and make her shots, she then raced away with the set 6-2. In the third Sam started running around her backhand to hit killer forehand shots to give her the set and match at 6-1. She served a few aces but was much more consistent then in recent times Iíd seen her play. It was a good match with lost of long rallies and winners.
