The JJ Forum Pick Thread (Vol 3)

Pick Thread Rules & Participants
Welcome to the JJ Forum Pick Thread - Up and running for 2009!!!!

Pick Thread Rules
Very simple - For any tourney we run the pick for, take the draw and pick the winner, by how many sets
And then hopefully we get to pick JJ's progress through to a successful final...
Respond with your picks in this thread and we'll update as we go...

Points

5 for correctly guessing how far JJ will progress in a tourney
Submit Round Number, QF, SF, F (i.e. she gets there but loses) or TITLE
Picks open from the date the draw is announced and closed the day before tourney starts

3 for the winning player
+2 for the exact (winning) scoreline (sets only)
0 if your pick loses!!
Picks open from when the OOP comes out and closes based on time zones before the start of play

IF JJ goes out in the earlier rounds/upto Semi Final - we can run the pick for the Semi's and eventual winner ... same rules will apply!

Congratulations to Moscow Champions - Hashim and Wayn! I'm still #1, but all will be decided in Doha, which will have new exciting pick format!

Re: The JJ Forum Pick Thread (Vol 2)

Welcome to Doha Season Ending Championships

We have some new rules for this tournament that will probably stay for the next season, too. I'd like to call it a Pick ROADMAP! I will add few more changes and announce the new pick rules after Doha. This is it for now...

1. Change(s) in points distribution.

Correct prediction of a match winner is now worth 2 points and correct set scoreline prediction is worth 3 points. Next season tournaments of different level will have different points distribution as well, with Grand Slams being the most valuable. That should spice things up a bit.

2. Tournament commitment.
- If you commit to a tournament by predicting JJ's progress, each round of the tournament you committed to becomes mandatory for you. If you miss a round you will be awarded with negative points: -1 point for each round missed at that tournament.

- If you don't commit to a tournament, you can still pick for each round, but you will be penalized with -3 points for missing the Progress Pick. As this will be your non-commitment tournament you will not be extra penalized for any missed round.

3. SEC rules.
- For this season all pickers will be allowed to pick, but next year only the 10 best pickers will be eligible to take part at the SEC. This should motivate pickers to be more consistent during the season 'cos only the best will be able to fight for this prestigious title. If a top 10 player doesn't commit to Doha, a WC will be awarded to the next best picker that hasn't qualified.

- You will be picking for all 15 (RRx12, SFx2, F) matches at this tournament, not only JJ's matches. There will be 3 picks a day during RR stage, 2 picks on a semifinal day and 1 final pick on the last day of the Championships.

- Once Doha groups are decided, you will be reminded to pick for JJ's Progress and thus commit to the SEC. You will have following options for Doha PP:

RR(0) - Jelena will go 0-3 in her group and fail to qualify for the SF.
RR(1) - Jelena will go 1-2 in her group and fail to qualify for the SF.
RR(2) - Jelena will go 2-1 in her group, but fail to qualify for the SF (unlucky Jeja).
SF - Jelena will reach semifinal.
F - Jelena will reach final.
Title - Jelena will win 2009 Doha SEC.

New rules for picking are harsh with minus points But other than that they are cool

Doha
Progress: SF

Do we pick for all matches this year too? I'm confused

I like this
Also, there are many people who commit in January and then just stop playing, they should be removed from the table.

They're not that harsh. Only -1 for a missed round/match.
Only -3 for starting tournament late.

Yes, we pick for all the matches. Hopefully the OOP will be available soon. But you'll have to be very fast 'cos there'll be 3 matches to pick for each day during RR stage, day after day...

Will you reset the scores at the beginning of the new season?

Re: The JJ Forum Pick Thread (Vol 3)

As soon as you know the OOP for Tuesday, start picking for EACH MATCH (all in 1 post). I'll edit this post to include Day 1 matches when the OOP comes out.

DOHA Progress Pick & Day 1 Matches:
JANKOVIC v AZARENKA
DEMENTIEVA v V. WILLIAMS
KUZNETSOVA v S. WILLIAMS
OPEN UNTIL 07:00 (PDT), 10:00 (EDT), 14:00 (GMT), 15:00 (CET) TUESDAY 27th OCTOBER

Any Pick posts timed AFTER the Pick closes will NOT be counted – regardless of what time I post the tables.
No exceptions.
Please post your picks as:
JJ's PROGRESS: RR(0)/RR(1)/RR(2)/SF/F/TITLE
PREDICTION: X defeats Y: SET-SCORELINE

so that they stand out (Pretty Pictures/Colours optional!)
Pick Closing Times subject to change, depending on Scheduled Start of Play.

If you want to change your pick before the closing time, please quote your original pick and post a new reply so that I don’t miss the edit.

Explanation for Progress Pick:

RR(0) - Jelena will go 0-3 in her group and fail to qualify for the SF.
RR(1) - Jelena will go 1-2 in her group and fail to qualify for the SF.
RR(2) - Jelena will go 2-1 in her group, but fail to qualify for the SF.
SF/F/Title - as usual.

Blimey Alex... I might just make this my swan song... I am not sure how much time I will have anymore with the job being as it is...

Somehow being a grown up just isn't fun anymore...
No No... not even glitter can help!

Wayn - I assume you are taking us all to McDonalds to celebrate the win?
I have humble needs... just an Apple Pie for me please

Pick Strategy is ALL: JJ is merely the weapon of choice...

You'll be fine, babe. Nothing changes for the pickers and the changes for me as a game-runner are cosmetic really.

When is the OOP coming out!?
