Hands down, this epic battle has not deserved a loser. Too bad it was Nole again. But man, what an outstanding superduper match this was. The definition of "awesome quality and tightness". For me it was the most awesome best of three match of the century. What an intensity. Such a shame that this wasn't a GS final. Nole seems to be the only one who can stretch Rafa to the very very limits on clay. Bow down for both. Match for the ages.

Jelena Jankovic, Angelique Kerber, Maria Sharapova, Vika Azarenka

It does make me wish the WTA would have matches like these.

^^ TOTALLY agree... that was everything deserving of a final....
So... what will the FINAL itself be like!

Oh yes, totally agree. The WTA is lacking those kind of epic battles. Really sad, but we would need two girls, playing their very best on the hightest possible level. The only match that came through my mind is the Final of 92 between Steffi and Monica, or more recently, the SF of the US Open 2007 between Justine and Venus. But to be honest, in terms of quality, mens tennis is miles ahead.

Jelena Jankovic, Angelique Kerber, Maria Sharapova, Vika Azarenka

yep - the only thing I can even point to (and even then it was more a battle between outer and inner Amelie) was Wimbledon '06 - Amelie/Justine... and even then that was more down to Justine going total walkabout!

In that case Jelena's nose would fall off.

Yeah for some reason, Novak and Rafa seem to bring out the very best in each other. Kudos to the both of them. They both got big cojones.

And this type of match is what the WTA needs. Epic battles, not glamour girls.

Re: The JJ Forum Random Muttering Thread - Totally Off Topic! episode 3.

Both players having so many MPS, it's always been my greatest fear, a 3rd set TB ..( my favorite losing a third set final at the US Open Final)

To both players.. Once you're down MP, you need a little luck to win a match.. this time lady luck smiled on Nadal.. Nole has always been Nadal's biggest challenge on clay..Please let them be on opposite sides of the RG draw..

I was hoping JJ would make the SF and play a cracker of a match against Safina, but we ended up with a Patty-Safina SF..

I'm praying that we see at least a couple of matches like this on the WTA at RG...

Justine/Maria YEC 07. One of my favourite matches, ever, on the WTA side. Even though I don't like Maria that much. Dinara/Venus in Rome last week was pretty badass.

But yeah, it seems like WTA gets these matches maybe 1-2 times a year, and ATP gets them a couple of times a month.

Sometimes you gotta put your foot down...
