There are couple of things that get on my nerves or make me laugh more then anything and that is :
That a guy that is posing the question, can't even spell her last name right....it's Jankovic not Jancovic...
Is that they have some standard thing stuck in their head of how Serbian looks like, but when you ask them they can't tell you because they never been to Serbia or don't know anything about Serbia or it's history besides what they read on Wikipedia.
If i go and edit Wikipedia now and say Serbia has 100 million people and are Arab they will come back and say "Wow i never knew that" but they will believe it because they are very gullible/stupid.
That a nation who was around for 1400+ years (all tho some half or so century under the name Yugoslavija - unfortunately) and was part of both Ottoman and Byzantine empires and a Kingdom it Self, who also had big role in 1st world war and to an extent in 2nd, is less known about then Snoop Doggy Dog.
Is that someone who read name Yugoslavia or Serbia and read continent Europe has this image in their head where 6+ foot blonde rich people that speak Russian walk about and are good at Ice-Hockey and have last names that end in "ov" and "ova"..... and were part of Soviet Union or Warsaw pack which again is not true.
If that was only true......
They usually get disapointed when they meet Serbians because that's not what they imagined in their head. Which is why i laugh at American movies when they try put someone who doesn't even remotely resemble or act like a Serb to play one.
It is true that Serbians have over it's course of history mixed alot with other cultures and people even tho some Serbians with "Kompleksi
" will denie it) but you can still spot a Serbian if you line up 10 different people just by the way they look, act, behave, etc ... even tho we mixed alot you an still point them out. It's a Serbian thing i guess... maybe it's harder for foreigners.
Anything east of Italy/Austria/Germany is a mystery to the Westerners who mainly use American movies/news to base they opinion or image on, of other non-westerners which is what makes it even more funny.
It's almost like the whole world revolves around West and West Roman Empire, but they forgot that the religion came from down south and people and culture from the east
. There were bigger, more powerful and longer lasting empires then West Roman empire, and that people were mixing with each other long before West started importing immigrants after 2nd world war to rebuild West Europe.
I hope that answers your question.
I guess my answer in short would be:
"Don't ask stupid question if you couldn't be bothered reading history, because if you did you would't be asking it in the 1st place".
It's not polite if you know what i mean
