Sophomore Klaudia Boczova was named Player of the Year and first-team All-WAC for the 2012-13 season. She is the first San Jose State women’s tennis player to receive conference Player of the Year honors.
Currently ranked at #53, Boczova was nationally ranked for seven straight weeks and is the only WAC player to be nationally ranked for the season. During conference play, Boczova had an undefeated 5-0 record and is 14-3 overall. She was named WAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week four times this season.
Not many news about Boczova for the last couple of years (just two posts in more than four years!). But I just noticed Klaudia Boczova is playing a tournament in Denmark this week. It's a so-called Grand Prix tournament - the highest grade in Denmark besides National Championships. And Boczova is having a good run:
Kronborg Open, Denmark
(wc)Klaudia Boczova d. (3)Anna Signe Rasmussen 75 61
(wc)Klaudia Boczova d. Emma Tranberg 60 61
(wc)Klaudia Boczova d. (8)Sidsel Dahl Pehrson 62 60
(wc)Klaudia Boczova d. (1)Mai Grage 26 61 64
Mai Grage is actually pretty good although she's not a pro player. She had a good junior career - somwhat on the same level as Boczova (Grage was #37, I think). I have no idea why Boczova has a Danish license (she's representing the biggest Danish tennis club KB, like Wozniacki)? Maybe it's just for the summer, maybe just for this tournament. I really don't know (I suppose she's still at a college in USA?).
The "Kronborg Open" tournament has a facebook site with lots of photos, but I don't recognize Boczova yet. But I'm sure there will be photos of her after the final. I'll keep you updated. Final should be played Saturday 11:30 CET.
