1st round: Magdalena Rybarikova
d. Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR) 4:6, 7:6(6), 6:1
2nd round: Rybarikova
d. (1) Flavia Pennetta (ITA) 7:5, 6:3
Pennetta struggled with her serve and was broken five times. "It’s the best moment in my career and I'm very happy to beat her because she is a very good player," Rybarikova told reporters, while admitting the 37 degrees Celsius temperatures had played a part in her victory. "It was terrible heat, it was unbelievable, and I wanted to win two sets because it was very hard," she said. (Source: Reuters)
d. (q) Melinda Czink (HUN) 6:0, 1:6, 7:6 (7)
The most dramatic undoubtedly being Magdalena Rybarikova's 60 16 76(7) victory over Melinda Czink. The first two sets were as lopsided as they look from the final scoreline, with Rybarikova racing through the first in just 21 minutes and Czink retaliating with a 19-minute second set. The two hard-hitters were even throughout the third set but Rybarikova was the first to get her nose ahead, holding a match point at 5-4; Czink fought back, took the set to a tie-break and eventually had a match point of her own leading 6-5, but her Slovak opponent fought that off and clinched the tie-break, 9-7.
1/2final: Iveta Benesova (CZE) d. Rybarikova
"This was a good tournamament for me, beating the No.1 seed, but I'm a bit dissapointed after this match," Rybarikova told AAP. "I'm looking forward to Melbourne now. My best performance was (the) US Open third round so now I will aim further but it's going to be very hard."
