In my opinion she's the most talented player out of all our girls born in 1992. She's now in semis of a very strong 10k in Turkey and during past 2 weeks she's beaten some very good players including former WTA #83 Beygelzimer
She can. Plus there will be a lot of BYEs in the first round of Carlsbad qualifying as there are currently less players ranked in top-350 willing to play then places in the draw. I hope she doesn't withdraw, she might as well have a 1st round BYE. Baku is 12h ahead of California so that will make up for the journey time too.
D***!! I missed Magda - Ons match, somebody watched it? I think that it must be really bad injury for Jabeur if she retire while leading 6:3,4:1 . Of course congrats to Magda, but this result is not very optimistic before SF match agains Peer...
Ok I know already everything what happened to Jabeur. Lucky Magda, but everybody knows that "you have to be good to be lucky"
Rumor has it that Ons faked injury to miss the match against Peer for political reasons...
Magda played very poorly - serve was completely not there (or she's serving like this now...) approx. 130km/h on 1st, when they rarely showed the radar. Very intimidated all along, could hit her FH with pace even on sit-ups, her BH was also plainer than usual, and she wasn't going for her shots at all. Ons played very well.
Win is a win. Hopefully she plays better tommorow (I did not see a match, but I saw some comments). Maybe they will replay in on PS, PSE or PSN later on.
She lost to Peer but she looked very tired, probably this tournament it was to much for her + she had some issues with her ankle. I hope in USA in 2 weeks everything's gonna be ok. Still big congrats for this week
In my opinion her the bigest problem was too many matches,She could win with Peer and Ons If she didn,t have to play in qualification. Two very tigh match there and difficult one againts Pliskova- it was too much for tgis girl, but she has talent I hope that we will see Magda in 1st round of USO
What a wonderful week she had, with her first WTA QF and SF (lucky for that one)
She will reach tomorrow her career best singles ranking as she will be World No.159. Of course, back into the top 200 for the first time since 2011. Big congrats :yeah:
Magda seems to have improved a bit mentally during the last months, making comebacks and winning much more tie-breaks now (last week again, 2-5 down against Ferrer-Suarez to finally win the set 7-6). That's really good for her
Lost a first round of Q match of the US Open to Cagla Buyukakcay 6-2 1-6 2-6. There was quite a long break after first set, maybe this have something in common with such a collapse in the second. In third Magda had two breakpoints to come back for three all but couldn't take it and after that it was all Buyukakcay.
Cagla was #28 seed so for sure she was a favorite here but Magda had a chance. Maybe next time
Well, that was predictable as Cagla had some solid results before this tournament (good wins or tight losses against good players), and Magda hadn't played a single match since her loss in Baku where she seemed to have a little ankle injury.
Actually I really thought she was bothered again by these problems after she had lost the second set so fast.
Next tournament for her will be next week in Kazan (50k+H), where she will be seeded
