Re: Kasia Piter

Kasia lost 57 67(3). But Madison is a very good junior (#7seed), so no shame here I guess. She fought well in the 2nd set from 0-3* and saved heaps on BPs in her last service games. Great tournament for Kasia.

Ana Ivanović.

Match Reports

Brengle Battles to Girls' Final
Saturday, 7 July, 2007

Girl’s singles seventh seed Madison Brengle advanced to the final with a hard-fought straight-sets win over Katarzyna Piter of Poland, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

Brengle, 17, proved too steady for her 16-year-old opponent, who recovered from a 0-3 deficit in the second set to take the match into a tiebreak, but ultimately lacked the firepower to upset the older player.

The feisty Brengle secured the first break of the match to move ahead 4-3. A questionable call on the baseline gave Piter two break points but Brengle held her focus long enough to claw them back and hold serve.

The American served for the set at 5-4 but loose play gave Piter a break point. Until now the match had been dominated by baseline play but the Pole seized the initiative by charging the net, and Brengle netted her backhand pass.

With play at 5-5, Brengle produced two slashing crosscourt backhands to set up break point, which she seized when Piter stumbled at the back of the court.

Presented with another chance to clinch the set, the diminutive, big-serving American didn’t miss a beat. Two early breaks in the second set saw her race ahead to 3-0 and she seemed to be on a fast track to victory.

But an injury timeout for Piter served to snap Brengle’s rhythm, long enough for the Pole to break the American’s serve and hold her own. Piter broke again to level at 4-4 and threatened to take the match to a third set. However, Brengle’s greater experience served her in good stead in the ensuing tiebreak, which she captured without incident.

She plays sixth seed Urszula Radwanska of Poland in the final.
