Fed Cup Poland 2017

Nominations for the Europe/Africa Group I have been revealed, for the week of February 6 in Tallinn. Magda Linette, Kasia Piter, Paula Kania and Magdalena Frech will be part of the Polish team, with Klaudia Jans-Ignacik remaining captain.
Iga Swiatek will be there too

Some strong teams in this group: Bulgaria (Pironkova/Shinikova/Tomova/Karatantcheva), Great Britain (Konta/Watson/Robson), Croatia (Konjuh/Vekic), Austria (Haas/Paszek), Hungary (Babos/Galfi), Serbia (Stojanovic/Jorovic/Radanovic/Danilovic), Turkey (Buyukakcay/Soylu). Of course a few of them may withdraw.

Re: Fed Cup Poland 2017

The draw is the easiest we could get. If we win the group, we avoid Croatia or Great Britain.
Our potential opponent in play-off:

Serbia (Stojanovic, Jorovic, Radanovic, Danilovic)
Israel (Glushko, Khazaniuk, Tahan, Krolitzky)
Bulgaria (Pironkova, Shinikova, Tomova, Karatantcheva)
Estonia (Kontaveit, Gorlats, Nuudi, Kaul)

Re: Fed Cup Poland 2017

^It is actually the strongest team possible without Aga And it's now decent enough for this level of competition. Remember some years ago, when there was really nobody bar Aga... At least Linette remains as a top 100 player (even if she's still looking for a win this year) and Piter looks in pretty good form. Kania has been unstable for months but she's a top 100 player in doubles, and Frech is improving.

I find this team really interesting to be honest. No Radwanska sister or doubles specialist for the first time in years, and the first time all three of Linette/Piter/Kania will be there I think

^ Still a weak team

#95 Linette
#210 Piter
#275 Kania
#280 Frech

I see no chance to qualify for WG 2 play-offs with this team

Poland needs #6 Aga

I actually can see them qualifying. They got a very lucky draw. with no Great Britain and Croatia.
Austria/Georgia are beatable. Bulgaria (I guess) in a play-off would be challenging of course.

True. Poland got a very lucky draw

So lucky they avoided Great Britain (Konta, Watson) and Croatia (Konjuh, Vekic)

Still it will be tough to qualify for WG 2 play-offs without Aga

Poland must win their group (Georgia should be easy, Austria could be tricky)
And then they must win the promotional play-off too

I expect Serbia (Stojanovic, Jorovic) in the promotional play-off, not Bulgaria
Pironkova just withdrew due to injury

I would not underestimate the opponents (Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria)

Re: Fed Cup Poland 2017

Magda lost a tight three-setter to Haas 4-6 6-4 5-7. Fortunately, Paula/Kasia won easily the deciding doubles match against Grabher/Paszek (6-3 6-2)
Poland wins this first tie.
